Colts nearing deal with Vontae Davis

The Colts are close to re-signing cornerback Vontae Davis, and there's "every expectation it will get done Monday," reports CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora. Indy made keeping Davis a priority after he broke up 12 passes and made one interception while starting every game last season.

Cornerback Vontae Davis has said he wants to stay with the Colts, and re-signing the impending free agent is the team's top priority, reports ESPN.com. Davis, 25, started every game last season, making 46 tackles and an interception and defending 12 passes.

The website notes corner Greg Toler was plagued by injuries last season, increasing the urgency for Indy to retain Davis.

Antoine Bethea not a lock to return to Colts

Free-agent safety Antoine Bethea has expressed a desire to stay with the Colts, but it's not a slam dunk he'll re-sign, reports the Indianapolis Star. "At 29, this could be Bethea's last shot at a big contract, and that could be a factor in negotiations," the report said.

Bethea had 108 tackles, two interceptions and six passes defensed last season. It was the fifth time in the last six years he recorded 100-plus tackles.

Colts GM wants Bjoern Werner to get stronger

Colts general manager Ryan Grigson has challenged 2013 first-round pick and outside linebacker Bjoern Werner to bulk up in the offseason.

"He knows he needs to get stronger. He knows that," Grigson said in his postseason press conference.

Grigson did add that he felt Werner got better against the run as the year progressed. Werner started just one game in 2013 and managed 18 tackles and 2 1/2 sacks.

Darius Butler leaves game with lower leg injury

Colts defensive back Darius Butler was forced out of Saturday's Divisional Playoff game against the Patriots with a lower leg injury.

Butler sustained the injury early in the fourth quarter and was unable to return for the remainder of the game. He registered four total tackles (two solo) and one pass defended in a 43-22 defeat.
