Dye (ankle) underwent surgery on his injured ankle Monday, ESPN reports.

After injuring his ankle in practice, Dye was placed on injured reserve in mid-December. While his procedure Monday required screws to re-set a ligament in his ankle and will sideline the receiver for about six weeks, Dye should be ready in time for summer OTAs.

Dye was placed on injured reserve Wednesday with an undisclosed injury.

Dye was recently promoted to the active roster on Dec. 10, but he saw a total of just two snaps since being eligible. In his place, Bernard Reedy will be activated from the practice squad to occupy Tampa Bay's last spot on the depth chart at wide receiver.

Dye was promoted to the Buccaneers active roster from the practice squad Saturday, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

With Adam Humphries ruled out due to a concussion, the Bucs were looking to add depth at receiver. In 10 games with Tampa Bay during the 2015 season, Dye notched 11 catches for 132 yards and a touchdown on 30 targets, but he'll likely be the No. 4 or No. 5 option at receiver in Week 14 for the Buccaneers.

Dye has been re-signed to the Bucs' practice squad, Jenna Laine of ESPN.com reports.

The second-year receiver had originally been called up to the active roster last Wednesday following the placement of Vincent Jackson (knee) on IR, but was ultimately determined not to be ready for game action by head coach Dirk Koetter. Consequently, he was waived last Saturday with the team needing to make room on the 53-man roster for Freddie Martino, who served as the No. 5 receiver versus the 49ers.

Dye has been waived by the Buccaneers, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.

Dye being waived clears a roster spot for wide receiver Freddie Martino, who will take Dye's place as the Buccaneers' No. 5 pass catcher.
