The Seahawks waived/injured Shields (Achilles) on Saturday, Adam Caplan of ESPN reports.
The tight end room in Seattle has been devastated by injury in the early days of training camp, as Shields, Cooper Helfet (foot), and Brandon Cottom (Achilles) were all waived Saturday. If Shields passes through waivers unclaimed, the Seahawks will have the opportunity to place him on injured reserve.
Shields is still undergoing tests to confirm the tear. If that is indeed the case, his season will be cut short as he was battling for a roster spot in Seattle.
Shields (ankle) needed assistance getting off the practice field Thursday, Curtis Crabtree of ProFootballTalk.com reports.
The 24-year-old remains buried on the team's depth chart beneath the likes of both Jimmy Graham (knee) and Luke Willson. Shields was already a long shot to make Seattle's 53-man roster, and his unsettled injury status only cripples his odds.
