McDaniels: 'Buck' is 'our fastest back': The Denver Post reports that new Broncos RB Correll Buckhalter is fine with sharing carries this season with rookie RB Knowshon Moreno and others. In fact, he likes the concept of splitting reps as it keeps him fresh. Broncos coach Josh McDaniels explained that he liked Buckhalter's multidimensional skills, which is why he signed him this offseason, and he also dropped a bit of a bombshell. "His body is young," McDaniels said of his 30-year-old back. "He just might be, as a matter of fact, I think he is, our fastest back. He's got a great burst and he's got great long speed. To add a guy to our offense that is very unselfish and is going to accept whatever role he earns is great, and he's going to play his butt off."

Fantasy Analysis

This is a telling statement by McDaniels -- even with Moreno being a first-round pick and a potential three-down player, if the coaching staff believes Buckhalter is their fastest running back, then he'll find playing time. Buckhalter was previously considered a very injury-prone rusher thanks to three season-ending injuries, but he's been healthy since 2006 and doesn't have a lot of wear and tear on his body even though he's 30. LaMont Jordan is in line to be a potential short-yardage/goal-line back for Denver, and his familiarity with McDaniels' offense might give him a leg-up for playing time, especially early on. Buckhalter seemed to be falling into a backup role behind Moreno, but a strong training camp could catapult him into a bigger role. He's worth a late-round pick in drafts, especially if an owner also takes Knowshon Moreno with an early- to mid-round choice.
