DE Reggie Hayward can sense the competition for his starting job. His age and salary are factors, but the Jaguars are clearly looking for the energy younger, faster and fresher players can bring to the field. Last year's No. 1 draft pick, Derrick Harvey, is set to start at one DE spot and Hayward will need to fight off the challenges of Jeremy Mincey, James Wyche and Quentin Groves to retain his spot with the starting unit. "We've got some young guys that are chomping at the bit," Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio said. "But veterans understand that. That's always the challenge. When you're a veteran in this league, there are always going to be young guys chomping at the bit to get into your spot and get your time." The Jaguars started last season with much promise but ended at 5-11. In the offseason, free-agent busts and troubled WR Matt Jones were let go so now, Jacksonville can focus on filling its many needs, Pete Prisco says.
