DT Kenny Smith ended a six-year absence from an NFL regular-season game when he played Sunday in a reserve role against the Chargers. It was Smith's first game since the end of the 2003 season, when he was playing with the New Orleans Saints. Since then he's been part of the Raiders, Buccaneers and Patriots but never made a regular-season roster, enduring three stints on injured reserve and spending two years out of football. Smith got only a handful of snaps in the Chiefs' short-yardage and goal-line defenses. 10/26/2009

The Kansas City Chiefs have signed Smith to their 53-man roster. He replaces Tank Tyler, who was traded to Carolina for a fifth-round draft pick.
