CB Lucas returns to Seattle: After his release from the Panthers, CB Ken Lucas re-joined the Seahawks, signing a contract with them. He's expected to compete for a starting job with the club.

Fantasy Analysis

Lucas isn't the answer to all of Seattle's issues, but he gives the Seahawks a proven veteran to try and improve a defense that allowed more than 250 yards passing per game last season. At 6-foot and 205 pounds, Lucas towers over 5-8 Josh Wilson and is bulkier than 180-pound Kelly Jennings, the two options Seattle used opposite Pro Bowl corner Marcus Trufant last year. That's why Lucas was out running with the Seahawks' No. 1 defense during the past weekend, even though he was signed a few days earlier. "It was kind of a flashback in time," joked Trufant, who played across from Lucas in the 2003 and 2004 seasons. Lucas is no better than a late-round pick in deeper IDP drafts this summer.

CB Ken Lucas returned to his pro football roots, and he'll get a chance to prove what he's said publicly -- that he can still play -- now that he's been anointed a starter with the Seahawks. the Seahawks lost him to Carolina when he signed a six-year, $36 million deal in 2005. Lucas started 49 of 50 games for Carolina and made 13 interceptions. Lucas played four seasons for the Panthers, but his play slipped a bit last season, and Carolina replaced him on the depth chart with former nickel back Richard Marshall. But even though he's getting long in the tooth, Lucas is considered a solid cover corner, and fits Seattle's defensive change to a cover-2 scheme, which calls for more physical cornerbacks who play close to the line of scrimmage. 64//2009

Injuries kept the Seahawks out of the playoffs in 2008. And the biggest of all was Matt Hasselbeck, who appears to be recovered from the bad back that limited him to seven games. Seattle is banking on it, Clark Judge says.
