Bucs moving Phillips to LB: The Buccaners are planning to move Jermaine Phillips from strong safety to linebacker this year. The team was thin at linebacker and figure they can capitalize on Phillips' aggressive play on the weakside. "I think I'm improving, but I still have a long, long way to go," Phillips told the Tampa Tribune. "I won't be comfortable with it until I know it. In certain areas, I've excelled. In others, I'm not where I need to be, but wherever this team needs me, that's where I'll be."

Fantasy Analysis

This dramatically changes Phillips' outlook for Fantasy in 2009. He'll be replacing Derrick Brooks in the defense and thus be in line for a potential 100-tackle season if he can stay healthy. Phillips broke his forearms twice last season, so he's no lock to play 16 games, especially with his rough style of play. He's worth a look as a No. 3 Fantasy LB with a late-round pick, and he has obvious upside if he can stay healthy and adapt to his new position.

S Jermaine Phillips is moving to weak-side linebacker, though he hasn't felt comfortable at the new position in minicamp. But after five practices during a minicamp last week, you get the feeling the Bucs saw enough of Phillips to believe moving him closer to the line of scrimmage will work. Phillips still is trying to convince himself. "When you get down to it, it's all football," Phillips said. "But I'm still just learning the keys, just like everybody else. I'm still learning the new defense and everything. I said I felt a little awkward at the linebacker position, but they say I look good, so that's comforting to know. But I didn't feel bad. I got comfortable as the days got on, but I know and everybody else knows I've got a long way to go. It was a good first few days just to get my feet wet and see what it was going to be like with my different reads and things of that nature." 49//2009
