Redskins add DT Haynesworth: Moving swiftly in the first hours of free agency, the Redskins opened their deep pockets and snagged perhaps the biggest name available: All-Pro defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth. The longtime Titans defensive tackle agreed to a seven-year deal worth approximately $100 million early Friday morning. A stout, sack-producing interior lineman is just what the Redskins have needed. Haynesworth had a career-high 8 1/2 sacks last year, more than one-third of Washington's team total (24). The 27-year-old lineman is 6-foot-6, weighs 320 pounds and has 24 sacks in seven NFL seasons since the Titans drafted him in the first round out of the University of Tennessee in 2002. Haynesworth last year also had 75 tackles, 22 quarterback pressures, seven tackles for a loss and forced a team-high four fumbles.

Fantasy Analysis

In theory, Haynesworth will clog run lanes and put additional pressure on opposing quarterbacks. However, he doesn't have the long-term track record that suggests he'll "ball out" every week for the next six years. Haynesworth has played one 16-game season, has a very bad temper on and off the field and has been accused of not playing to his fullest in the past. He could have been motivated to play well in 2007 and '08 for the pay day that he just got. We're skeptical, and we're the type of people Haynesworth wants to prove wrong. But be honest: He's guaranteed $41 million no matter what he does. What's his motivation? Be wary of him as anything more than a low-end No. 2 Fantasy DL worth a middle- to late-round pick in IDP leagues. Above all, remember that he's a defensive tackle, so sacks and tackles won't be plentiful.

Haynesworth has pleaded no contest to a reckless driving charge in Tennessee and will be on probation for three months. The charge against the former Tennessee Titans player stems from a Dec. 13 incident in which prosecutors say Haynesworth tried to pass another driver, who crashed into a concrete median and was badly injured.
