Crowell resurfaces with Buccaneers: The Buccaneers found help for a depleted linebacker corps, signing free agent Angelo Crowell. Crowell, who missed all of 2008 because of a knee injury, was a third-round draft pick of the Buffalo Bills in 2003. Two years ago, he had the best season of his career, finishing 2007 with a team-leading 140 tackles, two sacks, one interception, one fumble recovery and one forced fumble. The 27-year-old is joining a defense that's being overhauled after the release last month of starting linebackers Derrick Brooks and Cato June. He has started 41 of 65 career games and is expected to compete with Quincy Black and Adam Hayward for playing time at strongside linebacker.

Crowell has a shot to be useful as a No. 3 Fantasy LB, though he's certainly injury prone, and there's a chance he's lost a step because of the knee surgery and subsequent missed season. He's really only worth a late-round pick in the deepest of IDP drafts this summer.

LB Angelo Crowell wasn't able to participate in the Bucs' three-day minicamp, but he was at the facility every day and even took part with the team during their stretching sessions. Crowell still is recovering from a knee injury that forced him to miss all of 2008. When he returns during OTA's in May, he will begin competing with Quincy Black at strong-side linebacker. When healthy, the 6-foot-1, 246-pound Crowell is an impact player. In '07, he recorded 126 tackles with two sacks and an interception. Being injured makes it tough for Crowell to build much chemistry with his new teammates. "It's a different dynamic being a new guy because you create a lot of bonds with your teammates being on the field. You get along off the field, but when you're on the field and you're grinding together, that's where the closeness and relationships are built," Crowell said. 49//2009
