"I think in an ideal world there are some players for whatever reason that are better in multiple roles and being almost like a utility guy, playing guard, tackle, tight end," coach Rex Ryan said of Hunter in June. "Giving you a lot of that versatility, a smart, athletic guy. That is why he is here."
Hunter, who has not played in the NFL since 2012, did spend three years with the Jets under new Bills coach Rex Ryan from 2009-2011.
Hunter's deal is reportedly worth $870,000.

Bills coach Rex Ryan said on Thursday that he's expecting to sign Hunter to a contract, according to ESPN.com. Hunter took part in the final two days of minicamp on a tryout basis.
"Yeah, I think he'll be signed," Ryan said after Thursday's practice. "We're just putting him through the individual drills. We weren't putting him through any team drills. The move will cost a roster spot for someone else as the Bills are at the offseason 90-man limit.
Hunter played under Ryan with the Jets from 2009-2011 and last played in the NFL with the Rams in 2012.
