Bears sign QB Basanez: The Bears signed former Northwestern quarterback Brett Basanez to a two-year contract on Tuesday. Basanez entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the Carolina Panthers in 2006 after a record-setting career at Northwestern. He appeared in only one game that season, completing 6 of 11 passes for 56 yards and an interception. He missed the 2007 season with a wrist injury and spent last year on the Panthers' practice squad.
