The Minnesota Vikings and Chad Greenway agreed to a one-year contract Thursday, Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Greenway thus confirmed his offseason intentions to play one more season and complete his career with one organization. While his usage tumbled to 59 percent of the defensive snaps in 2015, he fared well in his move to weak-side linebacker, yielding 68 tackles (55 solo), 2.5 sacks, and one pick-six for IDP pursuits.
On Thursday, Greenway told Phil Savage on SiriusXM NFL Radio, "I have one more year of football in me. A goal of mine was to play in one place for my whole career. I want to finish here." Last season, Greenway recorded 86 tackles and 2.5 sacks.
Chad Greenway had seven tackles, including one tackle for loss, in Sunday's win over Green Bay.
The veteran linebacker was able to hold up through the season after injuries shortened his 2014 campaign. While he didn't register the gaudy tackle numbers he has in the past, Greenway was still a relatively effective cog in the Minnesota Vikings ' defensive scheme. Still, Greenway will be a 33-year-old unrestricted free agent this spring and with the Vikings continuing to get younger on that side of the ball, he could very well need to take another bargain-level contract to remain with the club.
Chad Greenway had eight total tackles and played every snap on defense in Thursday's loss to Arizona, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Greenway usually comes off the field in passing situations, but he stayed in the entire game with Anthony Barr hurt. Greenway could continue to see a spike in tackle totals if Barr remains out.
