Cowboys LB Spencer arrested: Cowboys linebacker Anthony Spencer was arrested over the weekend after a disturbance outside a downtown Indianapolis nightclub, police said. Spencer was arrested on preliminary charges of public intoxication and disorderly conduct about 3 a.m. Sunday outside a nightclub.

Spencer, 6-foot-3 and 257 pounds, was the Cowboys' first round draft pick in 2007. He played at Purdue and is from Fort Wayne, Ind. He had 34 tackles and two sacks for the Cowboys this season. He's not someone worth considering in IDP league play at this point.

OLB Anthony Spencer will have a chance to prove his 4.5 career sacks aren't a true indication of his ability. Now a starter with Greg Ellis on the chopping block, Spencer is healthy and the coaches are eager to see him in a full-time role. According to the coaches, Spencer was ready to come into his own last year before being held back by a training camp knee injury. "We have a lot of confidence in Anthony Spencer," coach Wade Phillips said. "He's truly going to be a really good player. He played really well when he played. At the end of training camp, I thought he was going to have a tremendous year. He got hurt early and that stopped his progress. "As long as he doesn't get hurt, I don't think his progress will be stopped. He's a real talented player." Said linebackers coach Reggie Herring: "Spencer (was) playing about as well as anybody we have, and that's including (DeMarcus Ware)" before he was set back by bone chips in training camp. He missed the preseason and five games in the regular season after the injury was complicated by a hamstring strain. 52/8/2009
