Boley adds insult to injury: Giants linebacker Michael Boley has been suspended by the NFL for the first game of the regular season for violating the league's personal conduct policy. Boley, who spent the first four seasons of his career in Atlanta before he signed with New York in the offseason, was arrested in May of 2008 and charged with battery on his wife after she accused him of becoming "too physical" after an argument. He was with the Falcons at the time. The league said the suspension stems from that episode. Boley had surgery June 24 to repair a torn labrum in his hip. The team said the estimated recovery time for the injury is eight to 10 weeks, which would take him to midway through training camp before he is ready to practice.

Boley wasn't expected to be a significant contributor in the first place, so this injury and suspension should knock him off of Fantasy draft lists. If anything, you might pick him up off the waiver wire as a one-week replacement during the season.

LB Michael Boley's suspension for the season opener didn't come as a shock to the Giants, who had expected a "mild" suspension as punishment for Boley's violation of the personal conduct code. He was accused of excessive violence during a domestic dispute in May 2008 as a membe rof the Falcons. The Giants signed Boley to a five-year, $25 million contract (of which $5.25 million is guaranteed in the first two years and $11 million in all) hours after free agency began Feb. 28. Boley underwent hip surgery to repair a torn labrum in mid-June, at which time the team reported that he should be out "between eight and 10 weeks." That would almost certainly cost him most if not all of training camp and that lack of preparation would virtually insure his unavailability for the opening game (Sept. 13 at home vs. Washington). 79//2009
