Gholston falls into four starts?: The NFL has suspended Jets linebacker Calvin Pace for four games without pay for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances. Pace will miss New York's first four games of the season and will be eligible to return for the Jets' Monday night game at Miami in Week 5. That should lead to second-year pass-rush LB Vernon Gholston getting a shot to start and take Pace's place for those games.

Gholston was a major disappointment last year with the Jets, but the slate is clean with the new coaching staff and there is a chance he could put up some decent totals. He's only worth a late-round pick in the deepest of IDP leagues as a reserve and/or as a handcuff for those owners who also select Pace.

LB Vernon Gholston impressed Ryan with his athleticism and work ethic, as he was able to immerse himself in the new defense, on the field and in the film room. Gholston lost valuable spring practice time last year because Ohio State's academic calendar didn't end until June, meaning he couldn't join the team full-time until then. Ryan hopes he can unlock Gholston's enormous potential after a sackless rookie season. 62/5/2009
