Several benefit from Keenan Allen's absence
by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer

With wide receiver Keenan Allen sidelined by a broken collarbone Week 16 at San Francisco, wide receiver Eddie Royal saw the biggest increase in targets for the Chargers. He led the team with 12, catching 10 passes for 94 yards. But wide receiver Malcom Floyd and tight end Antonio Gates saw an increase as well. Floyd's 10 were a season high. He caught four of them for 50 yards and a score. Gates' nine were tied for his second most this season. he caught two touchdown passes for the first time since Week 8.

For the most part, Gates has gone as quarterback Philip Rivers has gone this season, so maybe his resurgence was more a product of Rivers throwing for 356 yards and four scores than Allen's absence. Likewise, Floyd has been Rivers' downfield threat all season and has had games with similar numbers, even if the targets were less, so if you're going to add a player in Fantasy (not that you could add Gates, of course), it should probably be Royal.

Of course, the four touchdown passes were out of character for Rivers, at least going by recent weeks, so against one of the league's best pass defenses Week 17 at Kansas City, he's unlikely to repeat those numbers. And in that case, Royal's would likely suffer as well. It's not like Allen was consistently delivering for Fantasy owners, so maybe outside of deeper leagues, it's best to pass on Royal altogether.

Chargers WR Eddie Royal catches 10 passes in Week 16 win
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Chargers wide receiver Eddie Royal led his team with a season-high 10 receptions on 12 targets for 94 yards and one touchdown in his team's 38-35 overtime win over the 49ers Saturday.

Royal's touchdown came on a ball floated over the defender near the goal line for the team's only first-half score. They were able to rally back from a 28-7 halftime deficit thanks in large part to the work done by the slot receiver, who made two key fourth-down conversions in the second half.

The big performance gives Royal 58 receptions, 683 yards and seven touchdowns heading into a Week 17 showdown with the Chiefs.

Malcom Floyd leads quiet Chargers receiving night vs. Patriots
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Chargers wide receiver Malcom Floyd caught three of his six targets for a team-high 54 yards and one touchdown in his team's 23-14 loss to the Patriots in Week 14.

Floyd made an excellent play on a slightly overthrown ball after beating his man early in the second quarter, hauling in a 15-yard touchdown to put the Chargers ahead for the first time Sunday. They would maintain that lead until the fourth quarter, where they surrendered 10 points and took the loss.

Running back Donald Brown and tight end Antonio Gates shared the team lead in receptions, with both players hauling in five passes. Brown gained 49 yards on six targets while Gates managed just 34 yards on eight targets. Eddie Royal caught just two of his five targets for 30 yards, while nominal No. 1 receiver Keenan Allen was held to three yards on two receptions.

The Chargers will certainly be looking for a better effort by the passing game in the team's Week 15 matchup with the Broncos.

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

Chargers wideout Eddie Royal showed some late-game heroics and came down with the game-winning touchdown reception to lift his team past the Ravens in Week 13, 34-33.

The Chargers will host the Patriots in Week 14.

Only one ruled out by Chargers for game against Ravens
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

The Chargers have not ruled out anyone aside from nose tackle Ryan Carrethers (elbow) for their Sunday game in Buffalo, though linebacker Andrew Gachkar is doubtful with a knee injury that has prevented him from practicing this week.

Guard Ryan Miller (groin) is questionable while safety Jahleel Addae (concussion), running back Ryan Mathews (shoulder) and wideout Eddie Royal (toe) are probable.
