Porter left Saturday's preseason game against the Chiefs to be evaluated for a concussion, Rich Campbell of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Porter appeared to suffer a concussion when a teammate's leg collided with his helmet. He previously missed time due to concussions in 2012 and 2013, but he hasn't had any reported the past few years. If Porter were to miss time in the regular season, Chicago's thin group of cornerbacks would be ripe for the picking. Fellow starter Kyle Fuller (knee) is already uncertain for the start of the season, and the team's depth mostly consists of young players that were either late-round picks or undrafted.
Porter missed Thursday's practice with an illness, Dan Wiederer of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Considering it's just an illness, it shouldn't keep him sidelined for long, although his status for Saturday's preseason game against the Chiefs is now in question. Porter is an expected starter opposite Kyle Fuller for the upcoming season, but with him sidelined, look for Bryce Callahan or De'Vante Bausby to potentially see extra reps in his place. We should see Porter's status updated in the coming few days.
Porter recorded two tackles while recovering a fumble he forced Thursday against the Patriots.
Porter was a bit lucky on the forced fumble, as Patriots' running back Branden Bolden inexplicably ran to the right sideline, but failed to switch the ball to his right hand, allowing for the ball to be stripped easily. With Kyle Fuller (knee) possibly set to miss some early-season time, Porter is likely set to face more than he can handle against opponent's top receivers. With only 11 interceptions in nine NFL seasons, he's not likely going to emerge as an IDP target.
Tracy Porter re-signed with the Chicago Bears for the 2016 season, though terms of the deal are not yet known, the Chicago Tribune reports.
Porter signed a minimum-salary deal with the team in 2015 and made 13 starts while recording a team-high 22 pass break ups. For now, he's penciled in to start at cornerback across from Kyle Fuller, and Porter will look to improve on his one interception last season.
Tracy Porter (ankle) is active for Sunday's game against the Lions, ESPN Chicago's Jeff Dickerson reports.
Though he was limited by the ankle injury of the season, Porter will be cleared to assume No. 1 cornerback duties for the Chicago Bears . However, he'll face the unenviable task of chasing the Lions' Calvin Johnson all around the field Sunday.
