Brian Hoyer good, but not good enough in Week 3
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

Browns quarterback Brian Hoyer did everything right Sunday against Baltimore - until the game was on the line.

Hoyer missed on his last three attempts, including a short throw over the middle that would have allowed his team to run out the clock. But he still finished 19 of 25 for 290 yards and a 4-yard scoring strike to Miles Austin in the back of the end zone with 13 seconds remaining in the third quarter.

His performance began strong and got better. He completed 6 of 7 for 85 yards in the first quarter, including a 43-yarder to speedster Travis Benjamin, and was 17 of 19 for 214 yards by the end of the third. His 71-yard bomb to Taylor Gabriel with nine minutes remaining in the game could have put his team firmly in control, but poor execution and a missed field goal wrecked that opportunity.

Hoyer and the Browns will have plenty of time to regroup - they are now on their bye week.

Brian Hoyer has mixed feelings about coming out for rookie
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

Browns quarterback Brian Hoyer admitted after the Sunday win that he was mad when offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan told him that he was going to bring backup Johnny Manziel into the game.

"As mad as I was when he told me, it helped me mentally," Hoyer told the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram.

Hoyer, who seemed to throw better after Manziel's two brief appearances in the game, added that he;s open to the rookie getting some playing time if it helps the team win.

Brian Hoyer plays role of hero in defeat of Saints
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

Browns quarterback Brian Hoyer did little in the second half Sunday against New Orleans - until it mattered the most.

Hoyer hit a wide-open Andrew Hawkins on a 28-yard lob pass with the final seconds ticking away to cap a 79-yard drive and set up the game-winning field goal. That concluded a game in which he completed 24 of 40 for 204 yards, two scores and no interceptions. He compiled an 81.7 passer rating.

He began his day as well as he ended it. Using the no-huddle offense that proved successful in the second half of the opener in Pittsburgh, he drove his team downfield and tossed a 3-yard scoring strike to Miles Austin for a 7-0 lead. But he finished the first half 9 of 19 for just 67 yards and struggled at times finding a rhythm with his receivers until the final march.

Hoyer and the Browns host Baltimore next Sunday.

Brian Hoyer 'comfortable' with hurry-up offense
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

The Browns used a no-huddle, hurry-up offense Sunday against the Steelers to rally from a 24-point halftime deficit to tie the game early in the fourth quarter.

"It’s something I’m very comfortable with," quarterback Brian Hoyer said Monday, per the Akron Beacon Journal. "I think for our whole entire offense, we’re all comfortable with it. We practice it a lot. To go out and execute it in a game boosts your confidence level."

Hoyer completed 15 of 20 passes for 173 yards, one touchdown and a quarterback rating of 117.3 after halftime Week 1. Even with the great success, Hoyer said the Browns will have to be comfortable with changing tempo on offense moving forward.

"I think when you can move fast and you’re getting big chunk plays whether it’s in the running game or the passing game, that gives you a little bit of momentum," Hoyer said. "But we can’t just rely on our no-huddle offense because no one can sustain that type of energy for an entire 60 minutes, plus 16 games a year. So I think obviously it’s something that will be a good mix-up for us, but we just have to get better in our normal offense, too."

Brian Hoyer rebounds to lead vain comeback by Browns
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

Browns quarterback Brian Hoyer overcame the pressure of a miserable first half and the spectre of Johnny Manziel as his possible replacement to lead an inspired rally Sunday in Pittsburgh that nearly resulted in victory.

Throwing crisply and confidently to a wide array of receivers, Hoyer completed 15 of 20 for 174 yards after intermission. Included was a 9-yard touchdown off a bootleg to Travis Benjamin in the left corner of the end zone. He finished the game 19 of 31 for 230 yards and no interceptions.

Hoyer nailed three of his first four attempts, including a 47-yarder to tight end Jordan Cameron, but missed on seven of his next eight tries. He then engineered four scoring drives in first 20 minutes of the second half to turn a 27-3 deficit into a 27-27 tie.

He will try to lead the team to its first win next Sunday when the Saints come marching in.
