| AP: I'm 50-50 to start the season: Just over a week ago, Adrian Peterson stood in front of the media in Minnesota and said his goal remained to be ready for the start of the regular season. Now, as he continues his rehab from a torn ACL, Peterson told ESPN that he's not sure he can make that goal. "To be honest with you I feel like 50-50," he said. "I feel like honestly, sitting here telling you the truth, I'll be able to participate doing certain things. I think I'll be able to participate. ... I feel like I will be able to get out there and you call a run play or whatever, I'll be able to go through practice. That's how I feel. That's my mindset; but I'm going to follow the protocol. Whatever the Vikings and their staff want me to do, then I'm gonna do that; but I'm not going to hinder myself. I'm going to let those guys know how I feel, so if I'm able to get out there and get a couple of reps or whatever, then I'm going to participate in that way. But I'm sure they've got my best interests in hand, so we'll work it out." (Updated 05/17/2012) |

| Peterson has begun doing drills involving cutting and working on his explosiveness, which is an important step. He claims he's at "50 percent" of his old self in that area but his acceleration and deceleration needs work and his conditioning has "a long ways to go." Perhaps the biggest piece of optimism offered by Peterson is that he was allowed by trainers recently to run straight-line sprints with his teammates, and he beat them all. A possible scenario is that the Vikings keep Peterson's workload limited in his first three or four games before giving him the full workload we're all used to seeing him have. While that would hurt his Fantasy potential at the start of the year, it would mean he'd be ready to play big starting around mid-October. For now Fantasy owners should expect Peterson to be a question mark for the start of the season but a potential No. 1 Fantasy rusher once he gets his regular reps. We see him being taken in the middle of Round 3 in most drafts, though whoever takes him must also pick his current handcuff, Toby Gerhart, with a pick as soon as Round 9. We'll keep you posted on Peterson's progress. (Updated 05/17/2012). |
