Patriots' Belchick says Mayo making progress every day coming off injury
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

Although he sat out the preseason opener against the Packers, Patriots linebacker Jerod Mayo hasn't missed a practice since camp opened in his return from a torn patellar tendon.

"Jerod's made progress day by day; nobody works harder than Jerod does," coach Bill Belichick said Monday, per ESPN.com. "We've asked him to do a little more, either by volume/the amount of work he does, or we've increased the intensity of it in the two-and-a-half weeks we've been in training camp, and I think he's handled all those well."

The two-time Pro Bowl backer tore his patella tendon last October, ending his season in Week 6. Mayo had an injury guarantee of $4.5 million, meaning the Patriots would have to pay him in full if they released him before he was fully healthy.
