Eagles trade for Hobbs: The New England Patriots have traded veteran CB Ellis Hobbs to the Philadelphia Eagles for two draft picks. Hobbs, who started for the Patriots last season, will rejoin former teammate Assante Samuel in the Philadelphia secondary. New England receives a pair of fifth-round picks in Sunday's NFL draft, the 137th and 141st overall picks.

Hobbs will remain a No. 3 DB with the Eagles, who went after Hobbs to replace the departed Lito Sheppard. Hobbs will compete with Sheldon Brown and could start opposite Samuel. This makes the Eagles DST that much better, and they should remain a No. 1 unit this year.

CB Ellis Hobbs, a three-year starter for New England, has joined a suddenly very crowded field at cornerback. While Hobbs' former Patriot teammate, Asante Samuel, will start at left cornerback, Hobbs apparently will be given an opportunity to unseat Sheldon Brown on the right side after the Eagles dealt two fifth-round picks to get him fron New England. Brown has started 88 straight games for the Eagles. But two weeks ago, he asked the team for a trade after it refused to oblige his request to have the final four years of his contract reworked. The Eagles have said they have no interest in trading Brown, but they still made the trade for Hobbs. 43/0/2009
