Patriots' backup pass-catchers contribute Thursday
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com

The Patriots received contributions from a number of players Week 7 against the Jets.

Brandon LaFell led the way, hauling in four passes for 55 yards. He finished third on the team in yardage, and was targeted five times. Danny Amendola caught one pass, but made it count. In the fourth quarter, Amendola scored on a 19 yard reception from Tom Brady. Amendola should have had a better game, but had a couple catches taken away due to penalties. Brandon Bolden also caught one ball for 4 yards.

They'll look for more Week 8 against the Bears.

Brandon LaFell emerging as playmaker
by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer

Between wide receiver Julian Edelman, tight end Rob Gronkowski and running back Shane Vereen, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has plenty of options when he wants to throw the ball underneath, but when he wants to go long, wide receiver Brandon LaFell is also in the mix.

It was never more apparent than Week 6 at Buffalo, when LaFell led the Patriots with 97 yards on four catches. He scored twice, catching a short pass over the middle and taking it the rest of the way for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter and then beating the defense down the sideline on a 56-yard bomb to seal the game with a little more than two minutes to go.

LaFell had a season-high 119 yards Week 4 at Kansas City, and his touchdown then also came on a long reception of 44 yards. Most of that came after the catch, however.

Though LaFell has to split looks with Edelman, Gronkowski, Vereen and others, the receiving corps as a whole may benefit from the loss of running back Stevan Ridley, who injured his knee in Week 6. LaFell may have a tendency to boom or bust in a given week, but with his boom potential on the rise, he's now worth a flier in standard Fantasy leagues.

Patriots WR Brandon LaFell records second career multi-TD game
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

Patriots wide receiver Brandon LaFell played a big part in Sunday's win at Buffalo, recording two touchdowns in a 37-22 victory. LaFell finished with a team-high 97 receiving yards on four catches.

LaFell, who was targeted six times, was having a pretty quiet game until breaking out for two fourth-quarter touchdowns. LaFell gave New England a 30-14 lead with an 18-yard touchdown catch with 8:42 remaining. He then closed out the scoring with a 56-yard touchdown catch with 2:49 left. It was the second multi-touchdown game of his career.

LaFell, who is in his first season with New England, has three touchdowns in his last three games. The Patriots are back in action Thursday vs. N.Y. Jets.

Which receivers are worth adding this week?
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com

Chargers wide receiver Eddie Royal has been targeted at least six times in every game so far this season, and his big performance in recent weeks is enough to convince Jamey Eisenberg to put him at the top of his waiver-wire priority list ahead of week five.

Additionally, Jamey tabs Brian Quick of the Rams, Rueben Randle of the Giants, Malcom Floyd of the Chargers and Andrew Hawkins of the Browns rounds out the top five at wide receiver, with Odell Beckham of the Giants, Davante Adams of the Packers and Brandon LaFell of the Patriots possible sleepers.

If you need to clear a spot on your roster for any moves this week, consider parting ways with Kendall Wright, Cecil Shorts (hamstring) and Riley Cooper

Brandon LaFell taking advantage of his shot
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com

On a team that is utterly bereft of receiving options, Brandon LaFell has emerged as Tom Brady's favorite target over the last two games. Should Fantasy owners be buying into his new role?

LaFell has been targeted 18 times over the last two games, including 10 times during his six-catch, 119-yard performance in Week 4. He also hauled in his first touchdown of the season Monday, a 44-yard catch and run during which he showed the kind of playmaking the Patriots' offense has sorely missed this season.

LaFell has been targeted at least six times in three of four games this season, and was one of just two offensive players to log all 50 snaps in Week 4. He has clearly earned a significant role on the team, but there are enough questions about just how effective the Patriots' passing game is at this point that it will be hard to rely on him for Fantasy purposes.

In a perfect world, LaFell would be the team's third option in the passing game, but things have been decidedly not perfect for the Patriots so far. LaFell is owned in just 7 percent of CBSSports.com leagues, so he is worth adding at this point in many leagues, even if he might not be a dependable starter.
