It's a tough matchup because the Saints have only allowed six receivers to reach double digits in Fantasy points with nine touchdowns all season. They should be able to contain LaFell and Ginn this week.
Ginn has a touchdown in two of the past three games, but he only has one game with double digits in Fantasy points since Week 3. And LaFell has also scored in two of his past three games, but he has only one game with double digits in Fantasy points since Week 6.
LaFell and Ginn could do well in this matchup, but it's risky to trust them, especially at the start of the Fantasy playoffs. Consider them boom-or-bust No. 4 Fantasy receivers this week.
He came close to having much bigger numbers, getting open on a deep ball that likely would have resulted in a touchdown late in the second quarter if Newton hadn't overthrown him. In all, LaFell had seven targets, tying him with tight end Greg Olsen for the team lead.
LaFell has had at least seven targets in four of his last five games, but he has put up less than 50 yards in three of them. He'll look to make better use of his targets Week 14 at New Orleans.
Not much has changed for either team since that game. But the Bucs have given up seven touchdowns to wide receivers since that Week 8 game, with secondary receivers doing much of that damage. This works in LaFell's favor, as he fits the Nate Burleson (13 Fantasy points in Week 12)/Harry Douglas (19 in Week 11)/Rishard Matthews (24 in Week 10)/Doug Baldwin (13 in Week 9) mold. But it was actually Ted Ginn who excelled against the Bucs in Week 8, with 80 receiving yards.
If you're in a deep league and want to gamble on LaFell continuing this trend, you have the data to back up your decision. But don't slot LaFell as a WR2 in a standard league, as he was in a similar situation a month ago and failed to take advantage of the matchup.
LaFell was targeted five times, but caught just two of those passes for 36 yards. He had a long reception of 29 yards.
LaFell has been a solid option for the Panthers in the passing game all season, as he enters Week 13 against the Buccaneers with 40 catches for 495 yards and four touchdowns.
