Maualuga started the practice week in a limited capacity but was a full participant on Thursday and Friday, so it's rather surprising the team has decided to sit the veteran Sunday. Look for Vincent Rey to get the spot start in his absence.
Maualuga (fibula) was a full participant in practice Thursday.
The veteran linebacker has been battling through a fibula aliment for the past week, missing Monday's loss to the Giants. However, it now appears as if Maualuga has put the injury behind him and should be available for Sunday's tilt with the Bills. If his reps are limited during the game because of the injury expect Vincent Rey to see increased action.
This news is relatively unsurprising, as Maualuga figured to be a long shot to play. It will be the veteran's first absence this season. Vincent Rey will presumably take over middle linebacker duties while Maualuga is sidelined.
Maualuga, who hasn't missed a game all season, has now sat out two straight practices with an unspecified injury to his fibula and may be in line for a multi-week absence. If he's ultimately unavailable to play, look for veteran Vinny Rey to draw the start.
Maualuga missed practice Thursday due to a fibula injury, Jim Owczarski of Cincinnati.com reports.
The middle linebacker will be questionable for Monday night's tilt with the Giants so look for more updates on his status to come during the weekend. The specifics of the injury remain relatively unknown, but if he is ruled out Vincent Rey will likely take over as starter.
