Carr needed the surgery to fix a broken bone in his hand, but he is expected to be ready for the regular season.
"I take a lot of pride in being able to fight through whatever is going on to suit up on Sunday," he said. "At the same time, I've been blessed. It's not all me. It's really not me at all. I've just been blessed to play through certain injuries and stay away from the major ones."
Carr will have surgery to repair the fracture on Monday, and his timetable for a return is still unknown.
“He’s going to be out for a little bit here,’’ head coach Jason Garrett said. “We don’t think it’s serious. It’s a similar injury to what DeMarco Murray had last year when he played in the game, four or five days later.
“The biggest thing with this is getting the surgery done correctly, which we’re confident is going to happen, and then handling the incision and see what he’s capable of doing.’’
Carr is set to count $12.7 million against the salary cap during the 2015 season and the Cowboys have been trying to restructure his contract to lower that figure.
"That one is as it is, we're evaluating, looking to the extent that we can make contractual adjustments that would fit and help us under the cap, we want to try to do that with him," Jones said. "We value Carr and what he can mean for us this year."
Carr has refused to discuss his contract status publicly and Jones said restructuring the deal remains a priority.
"All of the contracts that we don't have closure on are a priority," Jones said. "He certainly is a player who is in our top consideration. So yeah, I'd say that's a priority. We want him on the football field."
"Some things I don't discuss out in public," Carr said. "This is one of those."
Carr will count $12.7 million against the cap during the 2015 season if he does not restructure his contract and he declined to say if he'd be willing to lessen the amount.
"I'm still here,'' he said. "I'm here until told otherwise. That's my philosophy. At the end of the day, if I'm playing football then I'm going to give my all for whoever I'm playing for."
