T.J. Ward collected 61 tackles, two sacks, two forced fumbles and six passes defended in 2015. He added 17 tackles, a fumble recovery and an interception in the playoffs.
Ward did a bit of everything for the Denver Broncos in 2015, playing up near the line, blitzing and shadowing some of the league's top tight ends. How he'll be used in 2016 will, in part, depend on who else the Broncos employ at safety. Starter Darian Stewart and third safety David Bruton are both free agents and capable of playing center field and up in the box. Stewart will almost certainly be on a different team in 2016, while Bruton may stay on only if a starting job in Denver presents itself. Different teammates could tighten Ward's role next season.
T.J. Ward recorded seven tackles, an interception, a fumble recovery and a pass defensed in the Denver Broncos ' Super Bowl 50 win over the Panthers.
If not for Von Miller doing his best Lawrence Taylor impression, Ward would have had a pretty strong case for Super Bowl 50's MVP. In addition to thwarting a Carolina drive into Broncos' territory with a pick and scooping up Miller's second strip sack to all but put the game away, Ward helped keep Greg Olsen in check to the tune of 41 yards. Sure, Ward almost gave the ball back to Carolina after fumbling his interception, but history will remember him as a key cog in Denver's "No Fly Zone" and a force in Denver's dominant defensive victory.
T.J. Ward (ankle) is active for Sunday's Super Bowl against the Panthers, Nicki Jhabvala of the Denver Post reports.
After the Denver Broncos ' starting safety tandem came out of the AFC championship game with injuries, there was some worry whether Ward and Darian Stewart (knee) would take the field in Super Bowl 50, but full practices Thursday and Friday put an end to those questions.
Ward took a seat at the tail end of the season for three games due to an ankle injury, but four appearances in the interim have confirmed that he can play through the pain. In 14 outings this season (including playoffs), he's posted 71 tackles (55 solo), two sacks, and two forced fumbles.
Tagging along since he was sidelined from Weeks 13 through 15, an ankle issue doesn't seem as if it will stand in the way of Ward taking the field Sunday versus the Panthers. However, the final injury report of the week will clarify his potential to play.
