 Feb. 10, 2012 1:08 p.m. - by Jason Butt - 5 areas to improve in 2012: No. 1 -- QB Flacco
QB Joe Flacco had a spectacular AFC Championship game. If he can continue to step up in 2012, Baltimore’s offense should be much improved. He’ll need his young WRs to elevate their play as well. Ravens RapidReports
 Feb. 10, 2012 1:04 p.m. - by Jason Butt - 5 areas to improve in 2012: No. 2 -- DL depth
A thigh injury hampered DT Haloti Ngata for the second half of the season, which ultimately affected the Ravens’ ability to apply pressure on the QB. The Ravens may want to consider adding DL depth to keep Ngata and NT Terrence Cody fresher late in the season.  Ravens RapidReports
 Feb. 10, 2012 1:01 p.m. - by Jason Butt - 5 areas to improve in 2012: No. 3 -- backup RB
With RB Ricky Williams retiring, the Ravens will need a solid backup to spell RB Ray Rice, an every-down back. The only option on the team is RB Anthony Allen, a seventh-round pick in 2011. The Ravens could look to free agency for a veteran backup.  Ravens RapidReports
 Feb. 10, 2012 12:57 p.m. - by Jason Butt - 5 areas to improve in 2012: No. 4 -- Special teams coverage
The Ravens gave up 3 return TDs (1 kickoff, 2 punts) this season. The 2 punt return TDs in a season tied a franchise record. In addition, the Ravens allowed teams to average 29.2 yards per kickoff return, higher than the NFL’s collective average of 23.8.  Ravens RapidReports
 Feb. 10, 2012 12:56 p.m. - by Jason Butt - 5 areas to improve in 2012: No. 5 -- WR production
WRs Anquan Boldin and Torrey Smith led Baltimore in receiving with 887 and 841 yards, respectively. No other WR was a major contributor. Baltimore needs another WR to step up. Ravens RapidReports
Feb. 09, 2012 3:55 p.m. - by Jason Butt - Report: Terrell Owens campaigning for Ravens roster spot?
Is WR Terrell Owens trying to grab Baltimore's attention? In an interview with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Owens said the Ravens could use WR help. "(Football) comes down to crucial catches and (Ravens WRs) didn’t make those catches." It's unlikely the Ravens have any interest in Owens, who's 38 years old. Ravens RapidReports
 Feb. 08, 2012 2:48 p.m. - by Jason Butt - 2012 Ravens UFAs: Stay or go -- Zbikowski
With S Dawan Landry leaving for Jacksonville this past preseason, it was S Tom Zbikowski’s time to become a starter in Baltimore. Then S Bernard Pollard beat him out. Zbikowski wants to play and it doesn’t appear he’ll see the field much with the Ravens. Verdict: Go. Ravens RapidReports
 Feb. 08, 2012 2:45 p.m. - by Jason Butt - 2012 Ravens UFAs: Stay or go -- Rice
Whether he’s franchised for $7.7 million in 2012 or signed to a long-term contract, RB Ray Rice will be in Baltimore next season. Though Rice wants a long-term deal, Rice said he’s OK with the franchise tag in 2012. Rice is the centerpiece to Baltimore’s offensive success. Verdict: Stay. Ravens RapidReports
 Feb. 08, 2012 2:45 p.m. - by Jason Butt - 2012 Ravens UFAs: Stay or go -- Redding
With the need to keep the LBs intact, it may be hard to keep DE Cory Redding, who could demand a steep short term contract. Redding had his best season since 2006, tallying 4.5 sacks. If Redding is let go, the Ravens could plug in DE Pernell McPhee or DE Arthur Jones. Verdict: Go. Ravens RapidReports
 Feb. 08, 2012 2:43 p.m. - by Jason Butt - 2012 Ravens UFAs: Stay or go -- McClain
LB Jameel McClain is emerging as one of the better young ILBs in the AFC North, so it's probable the Ravens would want to retain him. When LB Ray Lewis went down with a toe injury, McClain showcased leadership skills by taking over the on-field headset. Verdict: Stay. Ravens RapidReports
 Feb. 08, 2012 2:41 p.m. - by Jason Butt - 2012 Ravens UFAs: Stay or go -- Johnson
OLB Jarret Johnson wants to retire with the Ravens. Baltimore’s hinted it would like to re-sign him. It’s hard to imagine Johnson not with Baltimore, though the same statement could've been made for TE Todd Heap last year. OLB depth is thin and Johnson is durable and reliable. Verdict: Stay. Ravens RapidReports
 Feb. 08, 2012 2:40 p.m. - by Jason Butt - 2012 Ravens UFAs: Stay or go -- Gurode
GM Ozzie Newsome said backup C Andre Gurode told him he’d like to return for another season. He also said Baltimore would bring in another C this offseason. Gurode’s status likely depends on C Matt Birk’s retirement decision. Verdict: Stays if Birk retires, goes if Birk returns. Ravens RapidReports
 Feb. 08, 2012 2:38 p.m. - by Jason Butt - 2012 Ravens UFAs: Stay or go -- Grubbs
LG Ben Grubbs is one of the better NFL guards and should receive a nice contract this offseason. Problem is, can the Ravens afford him? GM Ozzie Newsome indicated that to keep Grubbs, the Ravens will have to be willing to part with other pieces to the puzzle. Verdict: Go. Ravens RapidReports
 Feb. 08, 2012 2:38 p.m. - by Jason Butt - 2012 Ravens UFAs: Stay or go -- Birk
The Ravens are open to bringing back unrestricted free agent C Matt Birk back for a 15th NFL season. Birk stayed healthy in 2011 and put in a solid year. However, Birk has about a week and a half left before he makes his final decision on retirement. Verdict: Stay (if Birk doesn’t retire). Ravens RapidReports
 Feb. 08, 2012 2:36 p.m. - by Jason Butt - 2012 Ravens UFAs: Stay or go -- Ayanbadejo
LB Brendon Ayanbadejo has been a staple on special teams and contributed some at ILB this season in pass situations, and when LB Ray Lewis was hurt for four games. Ayanbadejo could be retained for less than $1 million per year, unless another team overpays for him. Verdict: Stay. Ravens RapidReports
 Feb. 07, 2012 3:10 p.m. - by Jason Butt - Rice: Ricky Williams a Hall of Famer
RB Ray Rice credited a portion of his 2,068 total yards season to RB Ricky Williams, who retired Tuesday. "I had the best year with him beside me, and that was no accident," Rice said. "I believe that Ricky Williams is a Hall of Famer." Ravens RapidReports
 Feb. 07, 2012 3:08 p.m. - by Jason Butt - Ricky Williams: 'I will miss the game'
RB Ricky Williams on retiring after 11 total NFL seasons: "I will miss the game, the camaraderie, my teammates and especially the emotions of a big victory. I love the game and leave it feeling fulfilled, proud, in great health and excited about the future." Ravens RapidReports
Feb. 07, 2012 1:54 p.m. - by Jason Butt - Free agent and former Ravens RB McClain could be good fit
With RB Ricky Williams retired, one interesting free agent RB on the market is Le'Ron McClain. McClain played with the Ravens from 2007-2010 before signing a one-year deal with the Chiefs in 2011. McClain knows Baltimore's system well, though reportedly wanted more carries while playing a RB/FB hybrid position with the Ravens.  Ravens RapidReports
Feb. 07, 2012 1:53 p.m. - by Jason Butt - Ravens in market for free agent backup RB
With RB Ricky Williams retiring, there are plenty of veteran free agent RBs available for Baltimore, as long as the price is right. Here are a few: Derrick Ward (Texans), Maurice Morris (Lions), Ronnie Brown (Eagles), Cadillac Williams (Rams) and Tim Hightower (Redskins). Ravens RapidReports
Feb. 07, 2012 1:44 p.m. - by Jason Butt - Allen likely to replace Williams as top backup to Ray Rice
With Ricky Williams reportedly deciding to retire, third-string RB Anthony Allen will likely become Ray Rice's primary backup for now. Allen only had 3 carries in the regular season. The Ravens also have RB Damien Berry, who spent 2011 on the practice squad.  Ravens RapidReports
 Feb. 07, 2012 1:40 p.m. - by Jason Butt - Report: 10,000-yard runner Ricky Williams to retire
RB Ricky Williams will retire, according to ESPN. Serving as RB Ray Rice's backup, Williams had 108 carries for 444 yards and 2 TDs. Williams previously said he planned to return to Baltimore in 2012, but has apparently changed his mind. In a unique career, Williams ran for 10,009 yards and 66 TDs.  Ravens RapidReports
 Feb. 06, 2012 3:31 p.m. - by Jason Butt - 2011 Ravens rookie review: QB Taylor
Rookie QB Tyrod Taylor did enough to keep the Ravens from signing another QB in 2011. But you have to wonder if he’s someone the franchise can rely on if QB Joe Flacco suffers a season-ending injury. The coaches did express confidence in him all season. Ravens RapidReports
 Feb. 06, 2012 3:29 p.m. - by Jason Butt - 2011 Ravens rookie review: WR Williams
Undrafted WR LaQuan Williams almost enlisted in the army before the Ravens offered him a contract this preseason. Williams made the most of his opportunity, earning a little playing time as a No. 3 WR. Williams was ahead of fourth-round draft pick Tandon Doss on the depth chart. Ravens RapidReports
 Feb. 06, 2012 3:27 p.m. - by Jason Butt - 2011 Ravens rookie review: WR Doss
It wouldn’t normally be surprising that rookie WR Tandon Doss didn’t see much playing time. But with scarce depth, he was beat out by undrafted free agent WR LaQuan Williams. Doss still has time to grow into a role, but he didn’t show much in his first season with Baltimore. Ravens RapidReports
 Feb. 06, 2012 3:16 p.m. - by Jason Butt - 2011 Ravens rookie review: WR Smith
WR Torrey Smith's struggles in training camp caused the Ravens to trade for veteran WR Lee Evans. When Evans injured his ankle, Smith proved that Baltimore may not have needed to make the trade. Smith finished the season with 841 receiving yards and 7 TDs, both rookie franchise records. Ravens RapidReports
