Feb. 09, 2012 3:54 p.m. - by Lisa Zimmerman - 2011 Jets position review: LS -- Purdum TE Tanner Purdum went almost unnoticed, mostly because he did his job quietly and consistently and long snappers rarely garner any attention. He will be back in 2012, which is the last year of his contract. Jets RapidReports
Feb. 09, 2012 3:53 p.m. - by Lisa Zimmerman - 2011 Jets position review: OL G Caleb Schlauderaff -- The team spoke highly of Schlauderaff’s development, although he played briefly in only six games. He remains an unknown quantity. OL Vladimir Ducasse -- The second-round draft pick in 2010, Ducasse has been a disappointment. They have been unable to find a role for him although he was originally brought in with the plan to replace RT Damien Woody -- Wayne Hunter got the job instead. Ducasse has two years left on his deal but he is on thin ice. C/G Rob Turner -- The loss of Turner in the preseason to a broken ankle was a blow to the team’s depth as he had been a solid and reliable backup behind C Nick Mangold and at guard, as well as a key member of the special teams unit. Turner becomes a free agent in March and the Jets could lose him. RT Wayne Hunter -- Hunter was given a new contract and named the starter following Woody’s retirement. He struggled all year with both run blocking and pass protection and committed a lot of penalties. The Jets will bring in somebody to replace him or compete with him for the starting job in 2012. RG Brandon Moore -- Entered the 2011 season coming off double hip surgery. He missed much of the early part of camp and then started to feel the effects again late in the season. Fully healed, 2012 should be better for him, but he will be 32 years old and in the last year of his contract. C Nick Mangold -- A high ankle sprain caused Mangold to miss two games and the offensive line suffered noticeably in his absence. While they performed better upon his return, he didn’t have his best season. Mangold waited until the season was over to weigh in about the dissension in the locker room, defending QB Mark Sanchez. LG Matt Slauson -- Improved noticeably in 2011, but struggled along with the rest of the line to remain consistent in both pass protection and blocking. Slauson is going into the last year of his contract. LT D’Brickashaw Ferguson -- He didn’t have his best season, although he did earn a Pro Bowl berth. Part of a line that was inconsistent all season, Ferguson was responsible for his fair share of sacks. However, his full body of work speaks for him and he is not one of the bigger concerns going into 2012.

Feb. 09, 2012 9:14 a.m. - by Lisa Zimmerman - Contract clause kicks in, Holmes staying with Jets WR Santonio Holmes will almost definitely remain a Jet. A clause in his contract kicked in on Day 2 of the waiver period on Tuesday and Holmes now gets $15.25 million guaranteed over 2012 and 2013. The team would have had to release Holmes prior to that period if they wanted to cut him and avoid paying the money.

Feb. 08, 2012 5:39 p.m. - by Lisa Zimmerman - 2011 Jets position review: K -- Folk K Nick Folk didn’t miss a field goal until Week 9 at Buffalo and ended 19 of 25 for the season. Folk is a free agent and the Jets have a history of rotating in out and of different kickers. They will likely check the market thoroughly before offering the job back to Folk.

Feb. 08, 2012 5:36 p.m. - by Lisa Zimmerman - 2011 Jets position review: P -- Conley P T.J. Conley won the training camp battle with P Chris Bryan and punted satisfactorily all season. He ended up in the middle of the pack among punters with a net average of 38.8 yards. Conley is under contract through 2012, but the Jets will certainly bring in another punter to compete against him in camp. Jets RapidReports
Feb. 08, 2012 5:34 p.m. - by Lisa Zimmerman - 2011 Jets position review: WRs -- Holmes In 2011, WR Santonio Holmes got more attention for his derisive comments against his teammates than he did for his playing. Although he tied with WR Plaxico Burress for a team-leading eight TDs, he had the fewest receiving yards of his career with 654. His almost $50 million contract ensures he will return, but there’s a lot of work to do.

Feb. 08, 2012 5:32 p.m. - by Lisa Zimmerman - 2011 Jets position review: WRs -- Burress WR Plaxico Burress started slow, but became a solid red zone threat, ending the season tied with WR Santonio Holmes as team leader in touchdowns with eight. Burress will be 35 years old in 2012 and with only 612 receiving yards in 2011 and a desire for a large contract, his return is a stretch. Jets RapidReports
Feb. 08, 2012 5:29 p.m. - by Lisa Zimmerman - 2011 Jets position review: WRs -- Kerley The 2011 fifth-round pick, WR Jeremy Kerley came out of the gate showing impressive athleticism. His rapid improvement allowed for the release of WR Derrick Mason when the veteran didn’t perform up to expectations. Kerley proved valuable both at punt return and as a No. 3 receiver. His playing time should increase in 2012.

He was placed on the active roster early in 2011 and slowly improved in both his blocking and route running. He will likely continue in the No. 4 receiver role in 2012, but may see more playing time.

A solid performer on special teams, Baker caught his first NFL TD in Week 15. Expect him to stick around.

Feb. 08, 2012 2:03 p.m. - by Lisa Zimmerman - 2011 Jets position review: TEs -- Mulligan TE Matt Mulligan moved up on the depth chart with the injury to TE Jeff Cumberland. His play was spotty and he was often penalized, creating frustration for the offense. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see the team let him go. Jets RapidReports
Feb. 08, 2012 2:02 p.m. - by Lisa Zimmerman - 2011 Jets position review: TEs -- Cumberland TE Jeff Cumberland was showing promise in both his blocking and receiving as the No. 2 behind TE Dustin Keller. Feb. 07, 2012 3:22 p.m. - by Lisa Zimmerman - 2011 Jets position review: RBs -- Conner FB John Conner, known as “The Terminator" for his ability to throw lethal blocks, had a quieter-than-expected year. Without the benefit of tutelage from former FB Tony Richardson, Conner seemed less sure of himself. He also saw less playing time due to the scaling back of the running game early in the year. Conner will have to step things up in 2012.

Feb. 07, 2012 3:19 p.m. - by Lisa Zimmerman - 2011 Jets position review: RBs -- Greene Finally designated as the team’s featured back, third-year veteran Shonn Greene did not see the ball as much as anticipated early in the season as the team deviated from its original “Ground and Pound” philosophy. However, when the Jets reverted back to it, Greene reached 1,000 yards rushing for the first time in his career. He should return as the team’s starting back in 2012. Jets RapidReports
Feb. 07, 2012 3:16 p.m. - by Lisa Zimmerman - 2011 Jets position review: RBs -- Tomlinson Future Hall-of-Fame RB LaDainian Tomlinson took on the third-down back role for the first time in his 11 seasons. His numbers were the lowest in his career: 280 rushing yards, one rushing TD and two receiving TDs. A free agent, the Jets will likely move on from him as they look to get younger and stronger.

Feb. 07, 2012 3:14 p.m. - by Lisa Zimmerman - 2011 Jets position review: RBs -- McKnight RB Joe McKnight finally carved a place for himself with the Jets when he became the league’s leading kick returner. While he will retain that role, the Jets will look to develop him further and find a place for him in the running game. Jets RapidReports
Feb. 07, 2012 3:13 p.m. - by Lisa Zimmerman - 2011 Jets position review: QBs -- Sanchez QB Mark Sanchez struggled in his third year with inconsistencies in his accuracy and decision-making. Known for solid mechanics and a strong work ethic, many in the organization feel that Sanchez needs a strong No. 2 behind him to keep him from becoming complacent, and the Jets will look for a solid veteran to serve that role.

O'Connell has appeared in only two regular season games, both in 2008 with the Patriots. If O’Connell remains with the Jets, it will likely be only as the third quarterback.

His postseason radio comments where he talked candidly about the disarray in the Jets locker room raised some eyebrows, but McElroy is still expected to compete for a backup role in 2012.
