Feb. 07, 2012 12:46 p.m. - by Kevin Noonan - Eagles claim OT Jones from Ravens
The Eagles claimed OT D.J. Jones off waivers from the Ravens. Jones, from Nebraska, was a rookie free agent with Miami in 2011 and was waived midway through the season. He was signed to the Ravens' practice squad for Weeks 7 through 16 before being promoted to the 53-man roster for the final game.   Eagles RapidReports

RB LeSean McCoy has won the FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Year award. McCoy finished fourth in the NFL in rushing (1,309 yards) and first in rushing TDs (17), total TDs (20) and first downs (102). McCoy will donate his $25,000 prize to Delaware Valley Junior Achievement programs. Eagles RapidReports
Jan. 31, 2012 2:10 p.m. - by Kevin Noonan - Reid deflects heat from players
Reid Coach Andy Reid said he tends to be gruff with the media because he's protecting his players. "The team starts to dismantle (when the coach publicly criticizes players)," Reid said. "I'm not being mean or rude. I'm trying to make sure, No. 1, we stay together as a team." Eagles RapidReports
 Jan. 31, 2012 1:53 p.m. - by Kevin Noonan - Castillo was in limbo for a while
Juan Castillo just told reporters on Tuesday that he discovered he would definitely be back as defensive coordinator "probably the same time y'all did." That means Monday, when the Eagles announced the hiring of Todd Bowles as secondary coach. Eagles RapidReports
Jan. 31, 2012 1:31 p.m. - by Kevin Noonan - Reid: Vick ready for busy offseason
Coach Andy Reid said on Tuesday that a key to the 2012 season will be having Michael Vick for an entire offseason for the first time as the starting QB, which didn't happen last year because of the NFL lockout. Eagles RapidReports
 Jan. 31, 2012 1:06 p.m. - by Kevin Noonan - Reid confident in Castillo's leadership
Coach Andy Reid said he's not concerned that new secondary coach Todd Bowles' presence will undermine Juan Castillo's authority with the players: "I don't worry about that at all," Reid said. "I know how strong Juan is. Juan is a heck of a leader of men and the players believe in him." Eagles RapidReports
 Jan. 31, 2012 12:38 p.m. - by Kevin Noonan - Reid wanted Spagnuola's experience
Coach Andy Reid said he never considered replacing Juan Castillo as defensive coordinator and wanted to hire Steve Spagnuola to give Castillo "somebody with experience to bounce things off of," Reid said. "Those two together would have been dynamite." Eagles RapidReports
Jan. 31, 2012 12:17 p.m. - by Kevin Noonan - Reid contacted Spagnuola about job
Coach Andy Reid said he contacted Steve Spagnuola about joining his staff after Spagnuola was fired by the Rams. Reid said no titles were discussed and it wouldn't have affected defensive coordinator Juan Castillo's status. It became moot when Spagnuola became the Saints' defensive coordinator. Eagles RapidReports
Jan. 30, 2012 4:09 p.m. - by Kevin Noonan - Bowles named secondary coach to round out 2012 staff
The Eagles have officially hired Todd Bowles as their secondary coach. The team news release also said the hiring "finalizes (the Eagles') coaching staff for 2012," which means Juan Castillo will remain as defensive coordinator. Coach Andy Reid will address the media on Tuesday for the first time since the season ended almost a month ago. Eagles RapidReports
Jan. 30, 2012 11:41 a.m. - by Kevin Noonan - Reports: Eagles to hire Bowles
Todd Bowles will be named Eagles secondary coach this week, according to several reports. Bowles was DBs coach of the Dolphins last season and took over as interim coach for three games (going 2-1) after coach Tony Sparano was fired. Bowles, from Temple, played for the Redskins and started in Super Bowl XXII. Eagles RapidReports
Jan. 28, 2012 2:11 p.m. - by Marty Gitlin - Eagles coach: Shurmur, Childress make good match for Browns
Eagles coach Andy Reid on the play-calling of his former assistants, new Browns offensive coordinator Brad Childress and coach Pat Shurmur: "[They] can bounce things off each other. That's what [they] did here with me. ... [Whoever] was calling the plays ... we [made] the best of whatever situation." If the play-caller in 2012 has been determined, it hasn't been announced. Browns RapidReports
 Jan. 27, 2012 2:28 p.m. - by Kevin Noonan - Eye on 2012 -- Safeties
The Eagles haven't had an impact player at safety since Brian Dawkins. Nate Allen, coming back from knee surgery, was inconsistent but is expected to take a big step forward. But they're not convinced Kurt Coleman is the answer at SS and could upgrade -- unless they feel Jaiquawn Jarrett, who played sparingly in 2011, is ready for prime time. Eagles RapidReports
 Jan. 27, 2012 1:48 p.m. - by Kevin Noonan - Eye on 2012 -- Cornerbacks
Don't expect to see all three Pro Bowl CBs together again -- and Asante Samuel is the most likely to go. That leaves Nnamdi Asomugha and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie as the starters, Joselio Hanson as the nickel back and Curtis Marsh and Brandon Hughes fighting for the crumbs. Eagles RapidReports
 Jan. 27, 2012 1:46 p.m. - by Kevin Noonan - Eye on 2012 -- Linebackers
This position hurt the Eagles the most last season and it's the one that needs the biggest upgrade in talent - the Eagles started a sixth-rounder, seventh-rounder and undrafted free agent in 2011. The Eagles haven't used a first-round pick on a LB since 1979 (Jerry Robinson), but this could be the year. Eagles RapidReports
 Jan. 27, 2012 1:28 p.m. - by Kevin Noonan - Eye on 2012 -- Defensive line
The Eagles are loaded at DE with Jason Babin and Trent Cole. Plus Brandon Graham, the 2010 first-round pick, is a year removed from the knee surgery that slowed his progress in 2011. However, DT is a bigger concern. Cullen Jenkins and Mike Patterson were solid, but the Eagles need a pocket-cruncher and could go for a DT high in the draft. Eagles RapidReports
 Jan. 26, 2012 6:06 p.m. - by Kevin Noonan - Eye on 2012 -- Special teams, returning
What was a strength -- the Eagles' return game -- became a weakness in 2011. The Eagles had one of worst return games in the NFL. Former Pro Bowler DeSean Jackson averaged just 6.7 yards on punts and Dion Lewis just 21.6 yards on kickoffs. The Eagles have already signed return specialist Mardy Gilyard, and upgrading the return game will be a priority. Eagles RapidReports
 Jan. 26, 2012 5:48 p.m. - by Kevin Noonan - Eye on 2012 -- Special teams, kicking
K Alex Henery had a terrific rookie season except for one bad game (missed two FGs in one-point loss to 49ers). He made 24 of 27 FGs and that .889 percentage is highest in Eagles history. Rookie P Chas Henry wasn’t as impressive and could be replaced unless the Eagles feel he can improve enough with offseason work. Eagles RapidReports
 Jan. 26, 2012 4:18 p.m. - by Kevin Noonan - Eye on 2012 -- Quarterback
Michael Vick will finally have the entire offseason as the starter, but nobody knows who the No. 2 QB will be. Considering Vick’s injury history, a solid backup is critical. The Eagles know Vince Young isn’t the answer and don’t know if Mike Kafka is, so look for them to sign a veteran who can step in for a play or two or a game or two. Eagles RapidReports
 Jan. 26, 2012 3:25 p.m. - by Kevin Noonan - Eye on 2012 -- Running back
LeSean McCoy emerged as an All-Pro, and the challenge for the coaches will be to find more ways to use him. Dion Lewis didn’t play much as a rookie but should take on a bigger role next season. But Ronnie Brown won’t be back, and the Eagles still need a bruiser for short-yardage situations, although the free-agent market looks slim. Eagles RapidReports
 Jan. 26, 2012 3:23 p.m. - by Kevin Noonan - Eye on 2012 -- Wide receiver
The big question is free agent DeSean Jackson, but expect the Eagles to bring him back, perhaps with a franchise tag. If he returns, the Eagles will have the same top three receivers as the last three seasons:  Jackson, Jeremy Maclin and Jason Avant. Riley Cooper played well when Maclin was hurt, so this position seems set. Eagles RapidReports
 Jan. 26, 2012 3:19 p.m. - by Kevin Noonan - Eye on 2012 -- Tight end
Starting TE Brent Celek was basically a third O-lineman early in 2011 (nine catches for 73 yards in first five games) but became a big part of the offense later (53 catches for 738 yards in final 11 games). Backup Clay Harbor had his moments, but look for the Eagles to draft or sign another TE so there will be competition at the position. Eagles RapidReports
 Jan. 26, 2012 3:16 p.m. - by Kevin Noonan - Eye on 2012 -- Offensive line
Look for the Eagles to re-sign FA G Evan Mathis and for the five players who started the last game of 2011 to start the first game of 2012. The O-line is young and it improved dramatically over the course of the season. The only problem is depth, and the Eagles will address that at some point. Eagles RapidReports
Jan. 24, 2012 6:03 p.m. - by Larry Holder - April optimistic Jackson will return to Eagles
Eagles special teams coach Bobby April on if he thinks DeSean Jackson will return next season: “I think he could come back. Where he’s at and what he’s looking for and how we’re going to slice the pie? I have no clue. But I think he’s happy, and I think the organization is happy with him. So that’s a good starting point anyway.” Eagles RapidReports
Jan. 24, 2012 5:55 p.m. - by Larry Holder - Eagles preparing for possibility of losing Jackson
Eagles special teams coach Bobby April on possibly losing WR DeSean Jackson via free agency: “If he went elsewhere, we would invest a lot of time and a very high draft investment or free agent investment (on Jackson’s replacement) I would think. It would be big for our organization just how we would replace him.” Eagles RapidReports
