SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- San Francisco 49ers cornerback Walt Harris had surgery to insert a screw in his broken left hand Monday.

The 11-year veteran broke a bone in the Pro Bowl earlier this month. Harris earned his first Pro Bowl trip in his debut season with San Francisco.

The 49ers also waived cornerback Sammy Davis, who played one season as a backup after arriving from San Diego in a trade for receiver Rashaun Woods.
