Lions keep late-season pickup Smith in Detroit

ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- The Detroit Lions re-signed defensive end Corey Smith to a one-year contract on Monday.

Smith, who was an unrestricted free agent, had 10 tackles and two sacks for Detroit last season. He started in one of eight games after signing with the Lions in November.

In the regular-season finale at Dallas, Smith had a sack and forced a fumble in his first career start.

Smith played in 14 games with the San Francisco 49ers in 2005 and in 11 games for Tampa Bay the previous two-plus years, when Detroit coach Rod Marinelli was the Buccaneers' defensive line coach.
