Dolphins: Camp tour |

DAVIE, Fla., -- Observations from Dolphins camp:
1. The biggest change for anybody attending Dolphins training camp is the change in atmosphere. Gone are the rigid ways of Nick Saban, replaced by a much more comfortable ways of new coach Cam Cameron. This isn't to say that Cameron is a pushover. It's just that he isn't nearly as strict about the game's periphery stuff. That makes it a much easier visit come training-camp time.
2. Quarterback Trent Green is 37 years old, he's coming off a season that saw him miss time with a concussion and in his last game that mattered he was dreadful. Yet Cameron thinks Green is the right guy to play quarterback for his first team as a head coach. "It's a leadership position," Cameron said. "And a lot of things at the position you can't measure with the naked eye. Certain things you have to feel. It's more than height, weight, youth and arm strength. We need leadership on offense and a lot of guys will benefit from him as a leader."
3. Green might not want to get to comfortable. Rookie John Beck was sizzling on the day I watched practice and some Dolphins observers say he has been the best quarterback in camp so far. He is working against the backups most of the time, but Beck has a strong arm and a quick release. He told reporters that he has his wife quiz him on the playbook when he's driving to help him get a better understanding of the offense. I get the feeling he will be starting by November. And all those Miami fans who ripped the team for not taking Brady Quinn will come to love this kid.
4. The Dolphins offensive line struggled last year, but this year it's a new group from tackle-to-tackle. Right tackle Vernon Carey moves to the left side with Anthony Alabi going in at right tackle. Rookie Samson Satele will start at center with fellow rookie Drew Mormino at right guard. Veteran Chris Liwienski is the left guard. It is a group with plenty of uncertainty, but line coach Hudson Houck helped turn an inexperienced San Diego line into one of the best in the NFL. If he does that here, the Miami offense will be much improved -- no matter who plays quarterback.
5. The Dolphins defense played well last year, but when does age start to show up? Middle linebacker Zach Thomas will be 34 when the season starts. Defensive end Jason Taylor will be 33. Defensive linemen Keith Traylor (37) and Vonnie Holliday (31) and linebacker Joey Porter (30) are also past their prime. If those five start to show their age, the Dolphins defense could be in for a fall.
