Buccaneers: Five things to know

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla., -- Observations from Buccaneers camp:
1. Is coach Jon Gruden's job in jeopardy? That's the talk in some league circles, but Gruden isn't about to get into that type of talk. "I don't have time for that," Gruden said when asked about his job status. "There's a lot of pressure on a lot of people in this country. I'm just going to do the best job I can." After finishing 4-12 last season, the vultures are circling around Gruden. But in fairness to him he has been dealt some tough circumstances since winning the Super Bowl in 2002. The cap was a mess, the draft picks were too few and he has had some injury issues. He was forced to play last season with way too many rookies, including sixth-round quarterback Bruce Gradkowski. If he goes 4-12 again, though, he could be gone.
2. The Bucs offensive line is still a concern. The right side is fine with two second-year players in tackle Jeremy Trueblood and guard Davin Joseph. The left side and the center spot are questionable. Incumbent center John Wade will try to fend off Matt Lehr, while Luke Petitgout, signed as a free agent, is expected to be the left tackle. Rookie second-round pick Aaron Sears is expected to be the starter at left guard. It's a young group, but there is some talent.
3. If you're looking for a breakout player in Tampa this year, it might be receiver Maurice Stovall. The second-year player form Notre Dame is now running with the first-team offense, ahead of former first-round pick Michael Clayton. If you want to know why, stay around after a Tampa Bay practice. Stovall is the player who is always last off the field, doing extra work when the practice is concluded. "It's something I've always done, even back at Notre Dame," Stovall said. "I don't want any regrets any day that I go out there that I didn't work my hardest." It's rubbing off, too. Clayton, who has never been considered a guy who worked hard in practice, is now staying with Stovall after practice.
4. Rookie first-round pick Gaines Adams is working with the second team at right defensive end. Adams, who the Bucs took with the fifth overall pick, has the tools coaches love in pass rushers. But he's behind Patrick Chukwurah at this time and has missed some practice time that has set him back. In all likelihood, Chukwurah will be the starter on opening day. This is the same team that let Simeon Rice go two weeks ago for money reasons --- although it insisted he failed a physical.
5. One of the bright spots in camp has been running back Cadillac Williams. After being dinged in camp last year, Williams is healthy and seems to be running with more quickness. Gruden raved about his third-year back in a post-practice chat. Entering his third year, Williams, a high pick in 2005, needs to show he can be a star runner.
