Chambers to plead not guilty in North Carolina DWI case

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Miami Dolphins receiver Chris Chambers will plead not guilty to driving while impaired, his lawyer said Wednesday.

George Laughrun said Chambers will fight the charge stemming from his arrest July 14, when he was pulled over several miles south of downtown Charlotte.

Chambers was also charged with reckless driving and speeding. A hearing on the case scheduled for Wednesday was postponed until Sept. 26.

Laughrun said Chambers was charged with DWI despite a blood-alcohol level of .06, below the legal limit of .08. Under stricter drunk driving laws in North Carolina, Chambers could still be convicted.

Chambers, Miami's top receiver, made the Pro Bowl in 2005. He had 59 catches for 677 yards and four touchdowns last season.
