Friday's briefs: Seahawks' Hasselbeck set, Branch questionable

KIRKLAND, Wash. -- Matt Hasselbeck and his achy side looked far better, leaving the Seahawks' quarterback ready to start Sunday's game at Cleveland.

He may not have his leading receiver ready with him. Again.

Deion Branch was supposed to have returned by now from the sprained foot that has caused him to miss Seattle's last two games. But in the short practice Friday before the Seahawks (4-3) left to play the Browns (4-3), Branch remained only partly involved in the offense.

"We'll make that call on Sunday, but he's going to go on the trip and he's really close and he's getting better," coach Mike Holmgren said. "If he were to play he'd have a limited number of snaps ... specific plays."

There are no limitations on Hasselbeck, who strained his right oblique muscle while getting hit during Seattle's previous game Oct. 21 against St. Louis. He looked far more fluid while turning and throwing Friday that he did when he first tested the injury Wednesday.

"I didn't have any (muscles there) before, so it's hasn't been a problem," Hasselbeck deadpanned about his torso. Full story

San Fran's Gore hobbling

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Frank Gore was limited again Friday in practice with the San Francisco 49ers, who will make a game-time decision on their Pro Bowl running back's availability for Sunday's game at Atlanta.

Gore, who sprained his ankle two weeks ago against the New York Giants, has been limited in practice all week. He managed just 41 yards against New Orleans last Sunday, giving him 435 yards rushing and three touchdowns this season.

Pro Bowl cornerback Walt Harris is doubtful for the 49ers' game against the Falcons because of a sprained knee. Harris didn't participate in any practices this week, including Friday's light workout before San Francisco's flight to Atlanta.

Titans' White misses practice

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee Titans running back LenDale White sat out practice Friday because of a toe problem, but coach Jeff Fisher said he should be available for Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers.

Without White and Chris Brown, who has missed the past two games with a high left ankle sprain, the Titans were using rookie Chris Henry and second-year pro Quinton Ganther to take Friday's practice reps.

"We just gave him the day off. His toe is a little sore," Fisher said of White. "It's nothing serious, nothing that should affect him on Sunday."

White has posted consecutive 100-yard rushing games, including a 133-yard performance last Sunday against Oakland.

Jets WR Coles doubtful

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee Titans running back LenDale White sat out practice Friday because of a toe problem, but coach Jeff Fisher said he should be available for Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers.

Redskins' Washington questionable

ASHBURN, Va. -- Washington linebacker Marcus Washington was listed as questionable for the Redskins' game Sunday against the New York Jets after being limited in practice Friday with a hamstring injury.

Washington missed two games with the injury before playing in last week's loss to New England. However, Washington felt sore following Thursday's practice.

"He felt like he aggravated it," coach Joe Gibbs said. "We might work him out Sunday before the game."

If Washington doesn't play, he would be replaced again by veteran Randall Godfrey.

Three questionable for Vikings

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- As if things haven't been tough enough for the Minnesota Vikings' secondary this season, they may have to play Sunday against San Diego without their best cornerback.

Antoine Winfield was listed as questionable because of a hamstring injury that first flared up against Philadelphia last week and was tweaked during practice this week. Winfield did not practice on Thursday or Friday, but coach Brad Childress was holding out hope that he will be in the lineup against the Chargers.

"I don't put anything by Antoine because he is the same guy that I didn't think was going to play last year and made it to Sunday," Childress said. "But he is questionable."

Quarterback Tarvaris Jackson was listed as probable after missing last week due to a broken right index finger. He likely will be back in the lineup against the Chargers.
