First down: Is anybody throwing a better football right now than Brett "I've now defeated every team" Favre? The amazing thing about him is his accuracy. He stands in against a rush and throws lasers. The throw to Jennings for the winning score was amazing. He hasn't lost a bit off of his fast ball on the deep ball. He does sometimes force the football, like he did at the end of the half. Yes. His name is Tom Brady. Nobody's even close. Favre is having a terrific season, but let's be honest here: The best two quarterbacks were in Indianapolis on Sunday, and neither was named Favre. Brett Favre has gone from a Fantasy afterthought to one of the best quarterbacks this year. He's not the best Fantasy option right now -- Hear of Tom Brady? -- but he's in the Top 5 with Derek Anderson, Peyton Manning and Drew Brees, who is back. Still, I'd take Favre in any league. He has never looked this good. He seems to always find some guy I've never heard of (Ryan Krause) each game, and he's throwing a deep ball that's unmatched by any (even Tom and Peyton) quarterback this season.
Second down: More impressive breakout performance: Drew Brees or J.P. Losman? We expect that kind of game from Brees. But for Losman to have that kind of game is impressive, especially since he was benched earlier this year. Losman has a strong arm and he plays with a swagger that you like. But that was a huge game on Sunday. Drew Brees. Because he's beginning to play as he did last year when he was the runner-up MVP. For the life of me, I couldn't figure out what was wrong with the guy this year. Now I know: nothing. It's J.P. Losman for sure because he lost his job and played solid. Drew Brees has played well the past three weeks, so this is just a continuation of that. Losman has gone from a forgotten Fantasy option to a reserve worth using as an injury of bye-week replacement. Ownership doesn't like J.P. Losman. Everybody in the Bayou loves Drew Brees. Losman's numbers weren't as nice, but he had a much bigger hill to climb to get to the sort of day he had.
Third down: More shocking: The Lions are good or the Broncos are done? The Lions are good. Nobody thought they would be this good. Did they? I didn't. They can move the football, which we expected. But the defense is playing a lot better. That's the biggest shock. Blowing out the Broncos at home is an amazing performance. Watch out, Green Bay. The Lions are good. I mean, look at the last six years. They were the worst team on the planet, never winning more than six games in any season. Now, they're legit. Rod Marinelli for coach of the year? The Broncos are done, and you could make a case they should be winless right now with all the last-second field goals. Detroit's defense has been impressive, they are running the ball with Kevin Jones and you know the passing game is going to thrive. Mike Shanahan has one losing season since taking over the Broncos in 1995. Of course that season ('99) also marked the end of Sports Night. So tread lightly, critically aclaimed, but suprisingly unpopular shows.
Fourth down: Which early game performance (good or bad) caught your eye? It has to be the Vikings impressive beatdown of the Chargers. They had a chance to fold when the Chargers went up 14-7, but they rallied behind Brooks Bollinger. Really, it was Adrian Peterson. That's a big victory for this young team. The 296-yard effort by Adrian Peterson. I've never seen anyone shred the San Diego defense like this guy. Which, I guess, is what they were saying in Chicago. Yes, fans, he is the second coming of Eric Dickerson. Good move, Vikings. It has to be Adrian Peterson. I spoke to him last week, and he told me he's the best running back in the NFL. I thought it was too early for him to say that, but after rushing for 296 yards and three touchdowns against San Diego, he might be right. The Redskins needed a declarative win. Off they go to face the woeful Jets and an inexperienced QB. They need overtime to win. OVERTIME. This team isn't built to win skeeball, let alone get to the playoffs.

First down: So, are you convinced the Patriots are the best team in the league? Yes. Coming back from down 10 in the fourth quarter is impressive. I do not, however, think they are the best team of all-time like some people do. It's November. There's a lot of football left to play. Brady looked human for most of the game, but he gutted it out in the fourth. They are the best team. Yes, mostly because they beat the Colts in Indianapolis and they weren't on their game. They missed plays and committed stupid penalties, yet still they rallied from 10 down. Impressive. There is no one close to these two. I was convinced before this game that New England is the best team. It's going to be the Patriots and Colts in the AFC Championship Game, but the Patriots are playing on a different level. If this game was in New England, the Patriots would have won by three touchdowns. Now that they're officially on top of the NFL, the BCS and the AP Poll, I think it's safe to call them the best. Fire up Joe Esposito because nothing's gonna keep 'em down. Just keep Johnny Lawrence away.
Second down: Who are your three stars of the Patriots-Colts game? Brady has to be No. 1. He's the one who made the plays when needed. He threw for most of his yards in the fourth. Clutch. The second is Addai. His ability to turn a short pass into a long TD was key for the Colts. He had a heck of a day. The third is Moss. He makes it look so easy. And you got the impression the Colts played him well. Randy Moss, Tom Brady and Joseph Addai. Addai was the Colts' main -- and only threat -- and he kept them in this one as long as he could. Moss and Brady made the plays when it mattered most, which was on that fourth-quarter series when they closed to within three. The usual suspects: Tom Brady, Randy Moss and Joseph Addai. It wasn't the usual game for Brady, but he still got his three TDs. Moss again had over 100 yards and a touchdown. And Addai had 226 total yards and a TD. They are Fantasy stars for a reason -- they play big in big games. I'd say Jim Nantz gets one. He has tremendous gravitas in the booth. Joseph Addai should get one too for really trying hard. And, oh, how about Bill Belichick for not running up the score. He really showed some nice restraint.
Third down: OK, here it goes: The Patriots are going 16-0, right? Nope. I won't go there. Yes, they're good. But even the great teams stumble. And they still have a few tough games left. They'll lose one somewhere. If not, the pressure in the postseason will be immense. I imagine the Ravens or Steelers might get them. I still say no. It is so tough to win every week in this league, and the Patriots almost proved it. Look, Indianapolis was missing four starters -- including two linebackers -- yet was within four minutes of putting this thing away. Someone will surprise them. I don't think so. It's only been done once, and never in a 16-game schedule. As good as New England is that two-game stretch against Baltimore and Pittsburgh will be tough. They are the best team in the NFL, but 15-1 is more realistic with a loss in one of those two games. You bet. This Boston sports orgy isn't stopping anytime soon. Red Sox win World Series was just the start. Now it's the perfect Pats. Then it's the Celtics' resurgence. Then it's Good Will Hunting 2: Will Power sweeping the Oscars.
Fourth down: Another week, another Browns win ... we shouldn't even be surprised now, should we? No. And all the credit goes to Derek Anderson. He plays loose and free and like a 10-year veteran. He has a rocket for an arm and the coaches let him play up-tempo. He has nice weapons around him. A lot of credit goes to Romeo Crennel for keeping this team moving forward. They're a playoff contender. I'm not. I'm a believer. For weeks I kept saying this was a mirage. Then I changed my mind. Now it looks as if they're more comfortable when they're behind. Derek Anderson has been nothing short of sensational and this team seems legit. No we shouldn't, but the Browns did take advantage of the soft part of their schedule with wins against Miami, St. Louis and Seattle. It gets tough now with road games at Baltimore and Pittsburgh, but after that it's an easy stretch run. Cleveland is going to the playoffs behind a strong offense. If the Browns can find a defense, look out. To think the Browns are this good with former NBA guard Derek Anderson at the helm is amazing. I know their D isn't that good, but they sort of have that '01 Patriots feel to them. Coming from nowhere and all like they have, winning with Willie and Romeo. Just throwing that out there.
