Biggest upset: Huge, but can't top the Jets

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Is the Giants defeat of the Patriots one of the biggest upsets of all-time?
You bet. In terms of the magnitude of it, taking down an undefeated team in the biggest game of them all, it might be the biggest.
The Patriots had the biggest point differential over their opponent of any team in NFL championship or Super Bowl history. That's telling. And yet the Giants pulled the shocker.
Is it bigger than the New York Jets beating the Baltimore Colts? No, it is not. The Jets were 18-point underdogs and they represented the old AFL, a league the NFL viewed as inferior. But more people will remember this one. Pro football wasn't as popular then.
The entire world saw the Giants pull the shocker. It was huge, like Buster Douglas knocking off Mike Tyson. It was like the USA Hockey Team knocking off Russia in the 1980 Olympics. It had great theater, too, with two fourth-quarter touchdown throws by a quarterback trying to earn his bones.
This was good vs. evil, an entire nation seemingly rooting for the underdogs against the big-bad bullies. It will rank up there as one of the great sports upsets of all-time, but it's not the biggest -- even by NFL standards.
The Jets and Joe Namath beating the Colts is bigger. Plus, how big of an upset can it be when I picked the Giants?
