Anderson gets multiyear deal, but Quinn is long-term answer

Was he like a pitcher who gets figured out after everybody sees him?

The three-year, $24 million that Anderson gets sends this message: Let's see you do it again and then maybe you can get that huge deal, the Tony Romo $60 million deal.

Quinn is the long-term answer for the Browns. Savage is smart enough to know that. If Anderson comes back and plays well next year, they'll have a decision to make. If he doesn't, then it's Quinn's team and the Browns won't be hurt that badly by making Anderson a backup or letting him go.

Quinn is the better player. That will play out down the road. Cleveland might have Anderson throwing for them to open this season and he might finish it, but Quinn is the guy for the long haul.

You can bet Anderson, even with this contract, is on a short leash. And that's the way it should be.

If he shows Pro Bowl skills again, the Browns will be in good shape. If he doesn't, they are still in good shape. Yes, Anderson probably deserves the chance to prove he wasn't a one-hit wonder, but the guess here is that Quinn takes over in 2009.
