JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -The Jacksonville Jaguars completed a trade for former first-round draft pick Troy Williamson on Friday, again trying to upgrade a lackluster receiving corps.
The Jaguars also were hoping to sign free agent receiver Jerry Porter, who caught 44 passes for 705 yards and six touchdowns last season in Oakland. Porter caught just one pass in 2006.
It's part of a makeover for Jacksonville despite an 11-5 finish and a first-round playoff win over Pittsburgh.
The team decided not to re-sign receiver Ernest Wilford and backup quarterback Quinn Gray, opting to try to improve both positions. It also has given three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Marcus Stroud permission to seek a trade. Stroud missed eight games the last two seasons because of a nagging ankle injury. He also was suspended four games for violating the league's steroid and related substances policy.
Coach Jack Del Rio has said the former first-round draft pick probably won't return to full speed.
Jacksonville is about $30 million under the salary cap, and after finishing 11-5 last season and losing in the divisional round of the playoffs, expects to make several moves in hopes of closing the gap on AFC powers Indianapolis and New England.
Williamson was the first one.
The Jaguars gave Minnesota a sixth-round draft pick for Williamson, the seventh overall selection in 2005.
Williamson never lived up to expectations with the Vikings. His biggest problem was hanging onto the ball. He had 79 receptions for 1,067 yards and three touchdowns in three disappointing seasons.
