Air of satisfaction for Skins' passers: Campbell, Collins, Brennan please Zorn in victory over...

"Colt had a couple of plays that could have gone either way," Zorn said. "Those are things he can learn from, and he has to become a more disciplined quarterback and not risk as much as he did in the game.

"This week, those risks turned out great for us. But they could have easily gone the other way."

Zorn was relieved that the injuries to backup offensive tackles Todd Wade (sprained ankle) and Stephon Heyer (knee strain) were not serious.

The news was a bit more mixed for rookie wide receiver Malcolm Kelly.

Kelly missed the past week of practice with a strained hamstring. He tried to practice late in the week but labored through the workout. That's when a knee issue appeared.

Kelly had arthroscopic surgery yesterday to remove loose particles from his left knee. He is expected to miss two weeks of practice.

Kelly was a second-round draft choice, out of Oklahoma, last spring. He had been playing well in training camp until the hamstring issue arose.

FURTHERMORE: The Redskins released free safety Stuart Schweigert and linebacker Danny Verdun-Wheeler yesterday and signed safety Patrick Ghee and fullback/tight end Pete Schmitt. Schweigert was signed as a free agent after spending four years in Oakland, where he started 42 games. He was expected to compete for a starting job in Washington, but that competition never materialized.

Zorn said he was pleased with the sideline operation on the Redskins' bench during the game. "I was very excited about calling the plays," he said. "I was wondering how it was going to be on the sideline. What last night showed was that our staff has a lot of experience, and everybody did their job." . . . Zorn said the hold by rookie punter Brooks Durant on the missed field goal by Shaun Suisham was, "just right."
