Graphic of the Day: Average price range of NFL home opener tickets
By Roland Liwag | CBSSports.com Staff Writer
Would you shell out $122 to watch Brett Favre play in The Meadowlands against Tom Brady and the Patriots? What about $169 for Bears vs. Colts? Is it worth $191 to witness the start of the Aaron Rodgers era in Green Bay?
That's the average price of best available seats for NFL home opener games if you were to buy them today from leading online ticket venues.
The Giants came out on top with a seller advertising a luxury suite ticket for the team's Sept. 4 home opener against the Redskins for $33,336. Just in case that's a bit too steep, a best available seat can be obtained for only $145 per ticket. A bit high considering the economy? Perhaps, but one could justify the expense by saying the Giants are the defending Super Bowl champs playing against a divisional rival.
On the other hand, would you pay an average of $84 per ticket to attend the Miami Dolphins' home opener against Brett Favre and the New York Jets? What about $28,236 for a sideline luxury suite? To Dolphins fans, a season removed from a 1-15 record doesn't exactly translate to $115 per ticket just to watch Chad and co. Seems like fans just want to make a quick buck off Favre Fever.
A few more surprises and head scratchers:
- Best-available Cardinals tickets averaged out to $49. Why? They're starting their home schedule against the Dolphins.
- Brand-new Lucas Oil Stadium - Peyton Manning's knee - Marvin Harrison's offseason = $169 ticket average? Yes. Every single time.
- A measly $191 ticket average to watch Rodgers' first game as the starting QB in Lambeau? I'm surprised it's not higher.
- Only a $43 average to watch Vince Young begin his third season in Tennessee? A bargain that shouldn't be.
- Note: Once again, these ticket prices are just the average prices from some of the major online ticket retailers. There's always a bargain to be found somewhere in regard to sporting events -- except for New York Giants luxury suite tickets.
