Browns QB Anderson makes brief practice appearance

BEREA, Ohio -- Browns starting quarterback Derek Anderson made an appearance on the practice field Tuesday, his first since suffering a concussion Aug. 18 in a preseason game against the New York Giants.

He did some throwing at the beginning of practice while wearing his helmet, and left the field once team drills began.

Brady Quinn again took snaps with the first-team offense and is expected to start Thursday night in the preseason finale against the Chicago Bears. Coach Romeo Crennel said it is unlikely Anderson would play.

Quinn could play as much as a half before giving way to third-stringer Ken Dorsey, Crennel said.

Anderson is one of six starters who didn't play Saturday against the Detroit Lions and aren't expected to play Thursday.

Receiver Braylon Edwards (foot), running back Jamal Lewis (hamstring), safety Sean Jones (knee), Brodney Pool (concussion), linebacker Willie McGinest (groin) and Anderson didn't participate in team drills Monday and Tuesday. Neither did kick returner Josh Cribbs, who also missed the Lions game and likely won't step on the field against Chicago.

Crennel said he expects that all of them will be back at practice on Monday to prepare for the Sept. 7 season opener against Dallas.
