EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Washington Redskins starting left cornerback Shawn Springs was inactive for the season opener against the New York Giants on Thursday night because of a shin injury.
Jason Taylor, the defensive end who was traded to the Redskins by Miami, was active for the game and was listed to start. He has only practiced on a limited basis this week because of a knee injury.
Fred Smoot got the starting assignment for Springs.
Tynes (knee), Goff (back) and Thomas (hamstring) were ruled out earlier this week.
Veteran John Carney, who was signed on Saturday, will kick for New York.
