Russell ready to take control of Raiders
"In between (practice) periods I'll take him to the side when the defense is up and I'll pop-quiz him on the game plan and reads," Knapp said. "He's got recall a lot faster now because of the offseason."
Good footwork is emphasized so much because it's difficult to make some of the throws needed in the Raiders' offense without it.
"That's where a lot of reps are still needed to get him used to adjusting his feet against the pass rush and still staying on time with his progressions," Knapp said.
That will only come in games. The pressure Russell will face in games can't be simulated in practice, where his teammates aren't allowed to hit him.
Starting tonight, Russell can prove study hall was worth the time.
