Ravens' playmaker Reed continues to dazzle with MVP season
Reed has also eclipsed Ray Lewis as the best player on the Ravens.
It's true. He has.
There are plenty of fine MVP candidates this season like Matt Ryan, Kerry Collins, and either of the Manning brothers, and since this is a fancy pants league where fancy pants throwers get all of the fancy pants press, it'll likely be a fancy pants quarterback who wins it.
But the kind of game Reed had against a solid Washington team is something you don't see that often (except from Reed). There were only 14 points scored in the first half and Reed had six of them.
He's almost Deion Sanders-like because teams tend to avoid throwing at Reed as much as possible.
At least the smart offenses try to avoid Reed. In the fourth quarter, Reed intercepted Washington quarterback Jason Campbell, who obviously didn't get the memo.
What makes Reed particularly dangerous is how after he generates a turnover, he becomes an offensive weapon. He aggressively tries to score instead of simply settling for an interception. He transforms from a defensive back into Devin Hester.
"He might be able to play wide receiver in this league if he wanted to," said defensive lineman Trevor Pryce.
There was a funny scene with Reed late in the contest. With just seconds remaining Campbell tossed an incomplete pass. The ball skipped onto the ground in front of Reed. He picked up the football and began playfully acting like a quarterback, bouncing around in the pocket, mock throwing deep.
Reed, for a moment, imagined he was a Manning brother.
Don't give him any ideas. He could probably do it.
