Saints owner recovering from kidney cancer surgery

NEW ORLEANS -- New Orleans Saints owner Tom Benson is recovering from cancer surgery.

Team spokesman Greg Bensel confirmed Wednesday that the 81-year-old Benson underwent surgery on Dec. 10 for a cancerous mass on his left kidney.

Benson was released Sunday and is at home, Bensel said. A full recovery is expected.

Benson will miss the trip to Detroit for a game against the Lions, but is expected to be back in his office next week.
