Giants corner Madison lands on IR, Barksdale re-signed
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Veteran cornerback Sam Madison was placed on injured reserve by the New York Giants on Tuesday, two days after breaking his right ankle in the regular-season finale against the Minnesota Vikings.
The Super Bowl champions also waived recently signed linebacker Edmond Miles and signed linebacker Rich Scanlon and cornerback Rashad Barksdale.
The little-used Madison was hurt in the third quarter of the Giants' 20-19 loss. He finished his third season with the Giants and 12th overall with two tackles, an interception and four special teams tackles in seven games.
Miles played two games with the Giants after signing Dec. 17. He assisted on a special teams tackle.
Barksdale spent most of the season on the Giants' practice squad. He played 10 games with the Kansas City Chiefs last season.
Scanlon has played in 40 games, 31 with Kansas City from 2004-06 and nine with Tennessee in 2007. Never a starter, he has 51 career tackles on special teams.
Scanlon played at Bergen Catholic High School, located a short distance from Giants Stadium.
