Nike begs to differ, says it has no endorsement deal with Vick

Nike said Thursday it does not have a "contractual relationship" with Michael Vick, a day after the quarterback's agent announced a deal with the manufacturer.

In a statement released Thursday morning, Nike said it has "agreed to supply product to Michael Vick as we do a number of athletes who are not under contract with Nike."

On Wednesday, Michael Principe, the managing director of BEST, the agency that represents Vick, announced the Philadelphia Eagles player had a new deal with Nike during a panel discussion at the Sports Sponsorship Symposium.

"He actually just became a Nike client," Principe said Wednesday. "He has a new deal with Nike that we're all very pleased about."

Principe declined comment Thursday.

Vick's agent, Joel Segal, said later Wednesday that Vick looked forward to continuing his relationship with Nike, adding that the player and company had agreed not to release terms of the deal.

Segal did not immediately return a call for comment Thursday.

Nike had initially declined comment Wednesday night.

Nike, which signed Vick as a rookie in 2001, terminated his contract in August 2007 after he filed a plea agreement admitting his involvement in a dogfighting ring.

Lots of skaters get sponsorship deals that don't pay much money or include the skater in promotion campaigns.  They just give them free gear and hope that people who like them will see them wearing a certain product and go out and buy it.

Although there is some irony in the fact that a company that makes products out of dead animal skins feels the need to distance themselves from a

PLEASE REMEMBER, This is just my opnion B4 1000 TROLLERS try to jump down my throat!

I think Vick should have been suspended for at least a whole season and fined a whole lot more.

Vick was the money behind a Dog fighting ring or what we here in the Tri-State Area call a RACKET.

If Vick was part of the Gambino crime family he would still be in jail! I am a do

Last night on Philadelphia talk radio, Ike Reese said that it probably wasn't an "endorsement", just a deal like every mediocre player and up has, just like Ike used to have.

The deal is: Nike gives you a boatload of free crap plus 10 thousand dollars, and you wear it.

If you don't remember who the heck Ike Reese is, that's the point. It isn't an "endorseme

(POLL) Michael Vick's crimes were considered cruel, barbaric, and inhumane.  Would you feel the same level of disgust if he were arrested for cock fighting(chickens for those with a twisted sense of humor)?
