Credentials of Chiefs coach? 'Nuthn,' RB Johnson tweets

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Kansas City Chiefs running back Larry Johnson used a gay slur for the second time in as many days Monday, the Kansas City Star reported on its website.

Johnson refused to speak with reporters Monday, a day after the Chiefs' 37-7 home loss to the Chargers. Sitting in front of his locker, he turned away and muttered the slur in telling reporters to get "out of here," according to the Star, which recorded the comment.

On Sunday, Johnson belittled rookie head coach Todd Haley on Twitter in a series of posts that also included the same gay slur.

Haley said the Chiefs were looking into "a couple of situations" involving Johnson, but declined further comment. Asked about the slurs, he said the team was "gathering facts."

"I will say that how our players conduct themselves with the media and through the media is very important to myself as a head coach, and to the Chiefs as an organization," Haley said.

The tweets were posted to the "Toonicon" account. The Star reported Johnson has said the online alias is his. The account includes a link to Johnson's personal website. Chiefs spokesman Bob Moore said it could not verify that is Johnson's account.

The Twitter remarks were posted after San Diego routed the Chiefs (1-6). One tweet read: "My father got more creditentials than most of these pro coaches."

That was followed by: "My father played for the coach from "rememeber the titans". Our coach played golf. My father played for redskins briefley. Our coach. Nuthn."

Haley, hired earlier this year to replace the fired Herm Edwards, did not play high school or college football and attended college on a golf scholarship.

The tweets drew responses, including one that referred to a nightclub incident in which Johnson was accused of spitting in someone's face. Johnson's response include a three-letter gay slur.

The final post read: "Make me regret it. Lmao. U don't stop my checks. Lmao. So 'tweet' away."

A two-time Pro Bowler, Johnson he was benched for three games by Edwards last year for unspecified violation of team rules. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell suspended him for the fourth game for violating the league's player conduct policy in connection with incidents involving two women in bars.

Johnson then was sentenced to two years' probation after pleading guilty to two counts of disturbing the peace. One woman accused him of throwing a drink on her and another said he had pushed her head at a Kansas City night spot.

A judge earlier this year suspended the sentence and said he would remove the guilty plea from the public record if Johnson finished the probation period without further incidents.

Johnson was one of the best running backs in the NFL in 2005 and '06, rushing for more than 1,700 yards in each season. In 2006, he set an NFL record with 410 carries, but his production fell to 559 yards the following season after sitting out training camp in a contract dispute.

Running behind a poor offensive line, he has not done well this season, gaining only 2.7 yards per carry on 132 yards.

What happened to the Chiefs organization? Carl Peterson did such a great job when he went there in the late eighties. They were a joke then, but they became serious contenders for a long period. Now they are a doormat. They should have stuck with Tyler Thigpen and tried to ...(more)

He blasted the local media with some homophobic remarks at his locker at some point after yesterdays game.  This guy is the hands on leader of this team.... he just needs to smack somebody or spit on'em to make his point stick..
What a freaking joke.  Does Jay-z even let him hang out anymore?  I saw him get rejected by one of the Kardashians on a reality show IDK which one

I never heard of Haley before this year.  Is it true that he never played HS or College football?  IF so, I am kind of impressed he made it all the way up to a Head Coach of a Pro Football team.  I have coached HS basketball for 15 years, I am still waiting my turn.  Someone enlighten me. How did he get this far?  What were his credentials?  I guess he was tru ...(more)

Yeah Larry may be dumb but Haley is an idiot....Did you watch the game people?

I'm not for what Larry may have done in airing dirty laundry on a Twitter account but man...Haley rides his best player in Bowe and he only gets 5 targets then with time left in the game he just keeps slamming runners up the middle like he is trying to run out the clock. He didn't even try to score. Let's s

LJ is right.   Haley is doing a poor job.     He should have sat LJ weeks ago for Jamaal Charles who seems to be way more productive when he actually does get to touch the ball.   I expect to see alot more of Charles the rest of the season and possibly even LJ on the waiver wire.

is that we keep trading or best players and not getting *hit in return.  It wouldn't matter who was back there trying to run with that O line. Doe's anyone remember when we had 4 probowler from our O-line. Well they have gotten old -retired-traded....and we are not gettin any better there. Cassell could be a good QB if he time to throw (where T Gonzalez). Larry could break 50 yd td runs if th ...(more)

His coach not more than two weeks ago came to his defense stating something to the effect "The guy is running hard, sometimes it about more than who is running" when questioned about replacing LJ due to ineffective running game... so LJ repays that loyalty with this crap.  He's a snapper-head disgruntled employee - regardless of his coach - he's had a problem with every coach all the back to ...(more)

I think it's time that LJ hit the road. It seems that he doesn't want to do anything to help the team anymore. It's obvious that he is not giving his all. Now he's gotten the TO syndrome and is causing trouble for the coach.

I'm sick of him. It seems that since 2006 he has been becoming more and more of a drag on the team. I don't care if he's supposed to be an awesome running back. If

Somewhere in State College Larry Sr. is wondering where is went wrong. Sr. is a great up standing coach, who is largely responsible for a lot of the big time recruits at PSU these days. I really liked JR. in school, but these days... I'd cut him.

Is anyone else sick of media stories related to Twitter accounts?  Did anyone check out Larry's facbook and myspace too?  How about his diary?  Anything else we can talk about not related to statistics or analysis of sports?

I don't know I just think Twitter is stupid and I hate how the media relies on this for off the field sports stories.  Any thoughts?

First off I will say that I don't know if Haley/Pioli regime is the key to the Chiefs future or not.  But who in there right mind thought the Chiefs were going to do something this year?  They were handed a 2-16 squad.  I will expect improvement but still not a bunch of wins even next year.  Pioli knows how to win as it s ...(more)
