News briefs: Seahawks' Tatupu out for season

RENTON, Wash. -- Seattle's fourth fallen star had his season end Thursday.

A team spokesman said three-time Pro Bowl middle linebacker Lofa Tatupu went on the injured reserve list while he was having surgery to repair a torn left pectoral muscle in Alabama. Tatupu traveled there to consult with noted orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews.

The defensive captain was injured in the first half of Seattle's loss to Arizona on Oct. 18. He was hit high by teammate Deon Grant as both tried to make a tackle.

Wednesday, six-time All-Pro left tackle Walter Jones went on injured reserve. The 35-year-old said he will attempt to play in 2010, though no one knows if he will ever play again following microfracture knee surgery in December and then an arthroscopic procedure on the same left knee in August.

At least quarterback Matt Hasselbeck practiced after missing two consecutive workout days. The ribs he broke on Sept. 20 at San Francisco still aren't healed, but he and coach Jim Mora said the three-time Pro Bowl passer will start Sunday at Dallas.

Hasselbeck said he feels "tight and sticky" in his torso as his ribs enter the final phase of healing.

"So, those are three pretty big topics," Mora said. Full story

Giants' Bradshaw has cracked bone in foot, will play

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- New York Giants backup running back Ahmad Bradshaw will continue to play this season despite having a cracked bone on his right foot.

The third-year running back, who has gained 455 yard rushing, has seemingly known about the injury since the spring but he has played in pain.

Bradshaw flew to North Carolina on Wednesday and was examined by foot and ankle specialist Dr. Robert Anderson, who confirmed the diagnosis by Giants physicians: a cracked fifth metatarsal. It's a bone that runs along the outside the foot between the ankle and the toes.

Bradshaw said doctors told him the bone could break if he continues playing.

Ex-Cards, Niners RB Levy arrested in Arizona

GILBERT, Ariz. -- Former NFL running back Chuck Levy has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and possessing marijuana.

Gilbert police say the 37-year-old Levy was taken into custody on Oct. 14, five days after he was arrested on an outstanding warrant for failing to appear in court. That case involved an October 2008 charge of speeding in a construction zone and driving on a suspended license.

Levy was in his second year as an unpaid volunteer football coach for Basha High School in Chandler. Principal Ken James says administrators have decided that Levy should stop coaching at the school.

Levy, a former University of Arizona standout, was a second-round draft pick of the Arizona Cardinals in 1994. He played two seasons with the Cardinals and three with San Francisco.
